General Function:
  • Provide engineering support using DoD, Air Force, and industry engineering principles to improve the performance, reliability, and sustainment of current and future weapon systems.
  • Support airworthiness programs by applying MIL-HDBK-516C, Mechanical Systems Integrity Program (MECSIP), Critical Safety Item (CSI) management, and Air Force airworthiness policies.
  • Translate operational/user requirements into technical system requirements for design, development, testing, production, and deployment of weapon systems.
  • Perform engineering analyses including technical assessments, trade studies, system concepts, technology evaluations, and corrective actions for supportability issues.
  • Support system safety engineering by conducting risk assessments, evaluating safety analyses, resolving hazards, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Develop engineering documentation including requirements documents, specifications, engineering plans, acquisition strategies, test plans, technology assessments, and milestone documentation.
  • Support program reviews and technical meetings such as SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FCA, PCA, PMRs, TIMs, and other engineering working groups.
  • Analyze equipment and software deficiencies and assist in developing, integrating, testing, and implementing corrective solutions.
  • Evaluate contractor engineering proposals including ECPs, CCPs, FAA bulletins, DMSMS issues, risk assessments, and engineering change recommendations.
  • Support program management activities by preparing engineering cost estimates, milestone packages, executive briefings, and technical staff summaries.
  • Ensure Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) through Life Cycle Systems Engineering (LCSE) processes, baseline management, metrics tracking, and compliance reporting.
  • Improve engineering processes by participating in Value Stream Mapping and AFSO21 continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Manage configuration, data, and technical risk through configuration management, data management, environmental assessments, audits, and design reviews.
  • Provide systems engineering support for aircraft development, integration, manufacturing, sustainment, certification, documentation, and configuration management.
  • Support specialized engineering disciplines including avionics, electrical, software, systems security, systems integration, flight systems, structures, communications/navigation, manufacturing, quality assurance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Support certification and regulatory compliance including aircraft airworthiness, spectrum certification, CNS/ATM requirements, Information Assurance, cybersecurity, and security engineering.
  • Perform reliability, maintainability, and quality engineering through FRACAS reviews, defect prevention, quality audits, manufacturing assessments, lifecycle cost analyses, and process improvement.
  • Conduct systems integration activities including architecture development, interoperability, risk management, technology maturation, interface management, human systems integration, and airworthiness certification support.
  • Support system safety programs by maintaining hazard tracking, participating in mishap investigations, evaluating safety documentation, reviewing modifications, supporting Configuration Control Boards, and ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-882.
  • Provide specialized aircraft engineering support for programs such as C-17, Flight Systems, Structures, and UK Foreign Military Sales, including airworthiness, regulatory compliance, safety management, technical documentation, and coordination with U.S. and UK aviation authorities.

Qualifications:
Education/Certifications/Experience/Skills:
  • MA/MS Degree with 10 years of directly related experience or BA/BS with 12 years of directly related experience or 15 years of directly related experience to this discipline.
  • Must possess and maintain a government security clearance at the Secret
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project).
  • Must be able to perform all functional duties independently.
  • Must be able to transport self to various facility sites, as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
