Job description

DESCRIPTION:
Logistics, Port Operations and Inventory Management
  • Overall responsibility for Logistic functions (Port Operations and Carrier Services) at the pier and at all storage facilities. Works closely with shippers, State Harbors, and longshore companies to ensure continuous flow of inbound and outbound vehicles.
  • Oversees storage facilities, including long range planning, to identify whether additional storage space is needed.
  • Manages and oversees long term storage for all units in VPC lots.
  • Manages and oversees the daily data entry for gas consumption for processed units at all VPC lots.
  • Maintains and sustains appropriate levels on inventory. Manage inventory and demurrage cost.
  • Works with all department managers and contributes to Pre-Delivery and Detail departments so that they run efficiently and move units to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Keeps abreast of new equipment and tools available and recommends purchases, as well as determining staffing needs.
  • Maintains truck and trailer specifications and ensures proper maintenance is completed on the carrier fleet. Reviews and recommends the purchase of a new truck fleet.
  • Oversees the maintenance of complete, accurate records and documents (e.g. Payroll records, Car Carrier Maintenance records, registrations, PDC license for drivers. etc.)
  • Assists with Marketing and Product Planning in preparing special events (i.e. car show, product training, ride & drive, customer appreciation events, etc.)

Safety, Risk Management and Training
  • Stays up to date and complies with Federal and State regulations impacting Servco including C-TPAT (Custom Trade Partnership Against Terrorism)
  • Assists and work with Managers and Supervisors to develop and implement safety standards and procedures to prevent and minimize damage to vehicles, injury to staff, and ensure compliance with OSHA, Hazmat, and Environmental license regulations. Monitors effectiveness and takes corrective action if needed
  • Ensures personnel adheres to company policies and procedures and work safely.
  • Assist in ensuring safe and well-maintained facilities and monitors all legal, safety and environmental requirements and implements corrective action
  • Monitors and evaluates training programs and activities. Follows up to ensure new skills are being used on the job. Manages the Carrier Driver Training program.

Business Planning and Reporting
  • Assists in developing business plans includes financial profits, customer and employee satisfaction goals & objectives, and strategies to achieve them
  • Works with VPC's management team to ensure goals, objectives and activities are aligned
  • Works in partnership with VPC department managers to ensure effective communication and teamwork.
  • Assist in aligning VPC's goals and activities with dealers and other Auto General business units
  • Assist in preparing and submitting accurate and timely management reports.
  • Assist in keeping employees fully informed on matters affecting them, the dealership, and Servco (e.g. strategic/business/marketing plans, upcoming programs and changes, policies and procedures, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Vocational school training and/or practical experience in automotive repair preferred

Work Experience:
  • Minimum three years of work experience in a management capacity actively involved with strategic planning, setting budgets and establishing controls, and coordinating work activities with multiple departments
  • Auto distribution work experience and union shop management experience preferred

Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Oracle knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of production importation (harbors, customs, etc.) and vehicle processing preferred
