Job description

Job Summary
Towson University (TU) has earned distinction as both a top-100 public university and one of the nation's great colleges to work for. Located north of Baltimore, TU currently enrolls over 19,000 students and is the second-largest university in the prestigious University System of Maryland. Towson University fosters a climate that is grounded in respect to cultivating the intellectual and personal growth of the entire university community.
Under general supervision, the Payroll Processing Coordinator functions as a primary resource for supporting the payroll team through updating spreadsheets, running contract payments and support of all payroll processing. The Payroll Processing Coordinator will provide services to all divisions of Towson University. The function requires knowledge of Payroll practices and procedures and to learn the policies, procedures, and regulations of Towson University, the University System of Maryland, and the Central Payroll Bureau.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Responsible for running FACS and Additional Compensation contracts. Update and review all payroll spreadsheets. Process flat rate forms and secondary employment.
  • Provide backup For Graduate Assistant and student employee entry as well employment verifications, student employee terminations, student pay rate changes, Federal work study recertifications. Assist employees at payroll counter with questions.
  • Coordinate with HR Leave Benefits Specialist to receive and process any leave adjustments, receive leave balance information for terminated and retired regular faculty and staff.
  • Runs regular and contingent leave processes on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Research, analyze all technical and payroll related timesheet questions and concerns. Coordinate with payroll processors to review and audit payroll timesheet questions. Coordinate with OHR for any leave related timesheet questions.
  • Send follow up reports after each payroll to employees and supervisors regarding any outstanding payroll technical timesheets or questions and/or concerns.
  • Will serve as support for any future project implementations. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of payroll experience, two years of which must have included knowledge of state and federal payroll regulations and the use of tax tables to determine deductions.
  • Thorough knowledge of complex and specialized payroll rules.
  • Ability to run and troubleshoot processes.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and to multi-task.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Salary and Benefits
$49,582 annually and full University benefits that includes annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission. Applicants with TU or USM service may receive salary credit. When applicable, a 2.5% increase may be added to the annual salary, pending successful completion of the initial six-month probationary period, for this position.
