Payroll Manager

Mobile, AL | Direct Hire

Lead payroll operations for a major healthcare system with 7,000 employees and a $20 million biweekly payroll.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced Payroll Manager who can lead a team, improve processes, and still roll up their sleeves during payroll week.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, full-time

Location: Mobile, AL

Salary: $90,000-$100,000+ DOE

What You'll Do

• Lead and support a team of 4 Payroll Technicians

• Oversee payroll for approximately 7,000 employees

• Manage payroll processing, tax filings, W-2s, and year-end reporting

• Serve as the UKG and payroll/timekeeping expert

• Partner with HRIS, IT, Compensation, and Accounting

• Improve processes and identify efficiencies

• Stay hands-on during busy payroll cycles

• Ensure payroll compliance, accuracy, and deadlines are met

• Run reports, analyze data, and support audits

What We're Looking For

• Payroll management experience, OR accounting leadership with strong payroll expertise

• Strong knowledge of payroll tax and compliance requirements

• Experience leading a payroll team

• UKG experience strongly preferred

• Healthcare payroll experience is a plus, not required

• Knowledge of physician compensation/pay practices is a plus

• Strong Excel and reporting skills

• Collaborative, organized, and comfortable jumping in where needed

This role is best suited for someone who is structured, approachable, process-minded, and willing to work alongside the team, not just manage from above.
