Payroll Manager (International Payroll)

Payroll Manager Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of domestic and international payroll operations. This individual will ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across multiple countries while partnering closely with Finance, Human Resources, and external payroll providers. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with multi-country payroll, international employment regulations, tax compliance, and process improvement in a fast-paced, growing organization.

Payroll Manager Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for U.S. and international employees across multiple countries.
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on schedule while maintaining compliance with local labor laws, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Oversee payroll reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and month-end close activities related to payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and international payroll tax regulations.
  • Manage employee benefits deductions, equity compensation, bonuses, commissions, and incentive payments.
  • Coordinate payroll for expatriates, international assignments, and cross-border employees when applicable.
  • Prepare payroll reports and analytics for Finance and executive leadership.
  • Lead payroll system implementations, upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Partner with HR regarding employee onboarding, terminations, compensation changes, and payroll-related inquiries.
  • Manage payroll audits and support both internal and external auditors.

Payroll Manager Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including management responsibilities.
  • Required experience managing international payroll across multiple countries.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll laws, payroll taxes, wage and hour regulations, and international payroll compliance.
  • Experience working with global payroll providers such as ADP GlobalView, Workday Payroll, UKG, Dayforce, Deel, Papaya Global, Rippling, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting multi-state payroll and global workforce operations.
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger impacts.

Payroll Manager Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
  • Experience in multinational manufacturing, technology, biotech, or high-growth organizations.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or Workday.
  • Experience with stock compensation, global mobility, and expatriate payroll.
  • Experience supporting payroll operations in 5+ countries.
