Job description

Title: Payroll Manager (Contract)
Location: Alexandria, VA (Hybrid - 3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
Duration: Approximately 3 months (temp-to-perm possible)
Target Pay Range: $45-$60/hour

Overview

A well-established organization is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead end-to-end payroll operations for a multi-state, domestic payroll. This role will partner closely with Accounting to support reporting, compliance, and audit needs in a deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of bi-weekly payroll and labor processing, including timekeeping, maintenance, and period-end duties (month/quarter/year-end).
  • Audit payroll data for accuracy, research discrepancies, and resolve payroll/benefit documentation issues (deductions, status changes, LOA, terminations, etc.).
  • Analyze payroll reports and prepare payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Serve as the system administrator and primary point of contact for electronic timesheet and payroll systems; provide guidance on timesheet policy to employees/managers.
  • Maintain payroll and accounting workpapers; support labor/payroll audit responses and required reporting (including labor statistics and COBRA payments).
  • Respond to and resolve payroll inquiries related to direct deposits and paychecks.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Associate's + equivalent experience considered); Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) strongly desired.
  • 5+ years of payroll processing/oversight experience with exposure to accounting (or equivalent combination of education/experience).
  • Hands-on experience processing labor in Costpoint (including People-related modules).
  • Experience processing payroll in ADP Workforce Now.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to prioritize to meet deadlines; effective written/verbal communication skills.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
