Job description

Ultrasound Technician Intern Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of registered sonographers and radiologists, the Ultrasound Intern assists in performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations while gaining hands-on clinical experience. The intern learns proper imaging techniques, patient care protocols, and equipment operation in compliance with hospital and departmental policies. This position supports quality assurance and safety initiatives and adheres to professional standards as part of ongoing education and skill development.
  • Assist sonographers in preparing patients for ultrasound exams, including explaining procedures and positioning patients appropriately.
  • Observe and learn ultrasound scanning techniques under direct supervision.
  • Assists in operating ultrasound equipment and ensuring proper functionality and cleanliness.
  • Help maintain accurate patient records and documentation in electronic medical record systems.
  • Support department workflow by assisting with scheduling, room preparation, and equipment setup.
  • Follow infection control policies and ensure patient safety during all procedures.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and training sessions as required
  • Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and effective communication with patients and clinical team members.
  • Attend educational sessions and clinical conferences to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Adhere to all hospital and departmental policies, including confidentiality and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements, including documentation and reporting standards.
  • Support patient care across the lifespan, demonstrating sensitivity to physical and emotional needs from pediatric to geriatric populations

Ultrasound Technician Intern Requirements:
  • Actively enrolled in a Sonography program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), United States Department of Education (USDOE) or Canadian Medical Association (CMA), that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography.
  • Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Basic understanding of ultrasound physics, anatomy, and imaging principles.
  • Familiarity with patient care techniques and communication skills suitable for diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision in a clinical setting
  • Commitment to learning proper infection control and safety practices, including radiation safety where applicable.
  • Strong organizational skills to assist with scheduling, documentation, and workflow.
  • Effective verbal and written communication to interact with patients, staff, and supervisors.
  • Eagerness to learn ultrasound equipment operation and image acquisition techniques.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct.
  • Demonstrates initiative in ongoing education and clinical skill development
  • Willingness to adhere to departmental protocols and hospital policies.
