Job description

Location: Portage, MI 49002
Start Date: ASAP
Helper Rate: $$16.66 per hour

We are seeking a dedicated and patient helper to support a female client in her 70s in the early stages of dementia. She can be resistant at times, so the ideal caregiver will be skilled in gentle encouragement and motivation while maintaining a calm, supportive approach.

Care Responsibilities

  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting)
  • Provide routine structure and daily guidance
  • Offer motivation and redirection when needed
  • Ensure safety and supervision throughout the day
  • Provide companionship and emotional support
Schedule
  • Monday - Friday
  • 6:30 AM - 5:30 PM (Full-day shifts)

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience with early-stage dementia care
  • Patient, calm, and skilled in redirection techniques
  • Reliable and able to commit to full-day weekday shifts
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to encourage independence while ensuring safety

This role is ideal for a helper who understands how to balance independence with support, using positive reinforcement and patience to help the client stay engaged and on routine.
