Job Description
Theย Patient Advocateย Specialistย plays a critical roleย inย identifying, educating, and enrolling eligible hospital patients into theย Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) Program.ย This is a full-time, 4-day-per-week on-site role based at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where youโll work directly with patients and hospital partners. You'llย clearly explain program details, gather required documentation, and serve as a compassionate, professional advocate throughout each step of the enrollment process.ย
This role demandsย mission-driven advocacy,ย proactive problem-solving,ย empathetic communication, andย resilienceโall while balancing compassion with an urgency to ensure patients receiveย timelyย support. Byย facilitatingย employer-sponsored health insurance coverage, the Patient Helper Program helps medically complex Medicaid beneficiaries access comprehensive care.ย

Key Responsibilitiesย
Patient Engagement & Advocacyย
- Educate patients and families in a clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive manner about the HIPP program.ย
- Assess family dynamics and adapt communicationย styleย to effectively meet their needs.ย
- Obtain necessary authorizations and documentation from patients/families.ย
- Foster trust with patients whileย maintainingย appropriate professionalย boundaries.ย
- Demonstrate cultural competence and empathy when engaging with vulnerable populations.ย
HIPP Enrollment & Case Managementย
- Accurately collect all essential data for HIPP applications (e.g., employer information, insurance details).ย
- Employ proactive problem-solving to overcome barriers and ensureย timely,ย accurateย submissions.ย
- Collaborate seamlessly with the Patient Financial Assistance (PFA) team toย finalizeย enrollments.ย
- Consistently deliver against performance metrics such as enrollments completed, case resolution time, and documentation accuracy.ย
Program Maintenance & Benefit Coordinationย
- Clarify how employer-provided health insurance works in coordination with Medicaid.ย
- Verify and update ongoing patient eligibility for HIPP toย maintainย continuity.ย
- Assistย with resolving insurance-related issues upon request from patients or clients.ย
Technology & Documentationย
- Utilize PFAโs CRM/case management system to manage referrals and patient records.ย
- Upload, scan, and securelyย transmitย required documentation.ย
- Record patient interactions meticulously in compliance with privacy and legal standards.ย
- Efficientlyย operateย Apple tools such as iPads and iPhones for enrollment-related tasks.ย
Client & Hospital Relationship Managementย
- Represent PFA as the onsite contact at the hospital.ย
- Establish andย maintainย collaborative relationships with hospital staff, state agency personnel, and community partners.ย
- Always uphold the organizationโs values with ethical integrity and professionalism.ย
Qualifications
Required Qualificationsย
- High school diploma or GEDย andย completion of formal training in customer service, patient services, healthcare administration, social services, or case management.ย
- Foundational knowledge of healthcare terminology and insurance processes gained via coursework or certification.ย
- Ability to pass hospital credentialing, including vaccinations and drug/alcohol screening.ย
Preferred Qualificationsย
- Associateโsย orย Bachelorโs degree in Social Work, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field.ย
- Training in motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, or medical billing/coding.ย
- Continuing education in Medicaid/Medicare eligibility, health equity, or patient advocacy.ย
- Three-Five yearsโ experience in patient-facing roles within a healthcare setting.ย
- Fullย Bilingualย proficiencyย in Spanish is strongly preferred.ย
