Job description

Summary

The Accounting Manager serves as a subject matter expert and technical accounting lead within the accounting department. This role does not carry direct supervisory responsibility but provides oversight review of others’ work and serves as a go-to resource for resolving questions, issues, and complex accounting problems. The Accounting Manager is responsible for rebuilding and improving accounting processes, leading special projects, and partnering with Revenue Cycle to coordinate refund processes. The role holds oversight review responsibilities within the accounts payable payments, cash forecasting, cash flow management, and treasury management functions, and supports other staff by providing technical guidance and practical solutions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger activities, reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.

• Manage the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, operational reports, and financial statements.

• Monitor department KPIs, financial reporting metrics, reconciliations, and operational performance while preparing leadership reports and dashboards.

• Review the work of accounting staff to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established processes and controls; does not include direct supervisory or people management responsibilities.

• Partner with Revenue Cycle to coordinate refund processes, resolve outstanding items, and ensure proper accounting treatment for patient and payer refunds.

• Ensure compliance with US GAAP, internal financial controls, organizational accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Assist with budgeting processes, audit preparation, cash management support, and financial analysis projects as needed.

• Provide oversight review within the accounts payable payments, cash forecasting, cash flow management, and treasury management functions to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal controls.

• Lead special projects and process rebuilding initiatives; identify and implement operational improvements to strengthen accounting accuracy and department performance.

• Serve as a go-to technical accounting resource for staff and cross-functional teams; assist in resolving complex accounting questions, issues, and escalations.

• Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.

• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience required; management or supervisory experience preferred.

• Experience with ERP/accounting systems, Microsoft Excel, financial reporting tools, and reconciliations required.

• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, reconciliations, and operational accounting workflows.

• Demonstrated technical accounting expertise, analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, communication skills, and the ability to work independently on complex issues.

• Experience in healthcare or multi-location accounting environments preferred.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This role has no direct reports. The Accounting Manager reviews the work of accounting staff and provides oversight within assigned functional areas, but does not hold people management responsibilities such as hiring, performance evaluation, or disciplinary authority.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.


Physical Demands & Work Environment

Primarily office-based role requiring prolonged computer use, regular communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds may be required. Occasional travel to satellite office locations may be required.
