Job description

Description:

The Director of Patient Accounting monitors the activities of the Patient Accounting and Admitting Department of the hospital. They will also function as the credentialing agent for insurance payers and act as liaison with the hospital billing company. They will lead the work of staff in the Patient Accounting and Admitting Departments, act as technical resource to staff, computes, bills, posts, and collects patient accounts, ensures adequate staffing and quality controls the work product of the departments, and performs related duties as required. Additionally, he/she is responsible for functioning well as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of medical business office and/or collection experience
  • Knowledge of Medical Billing and Coding preferred
  • Knowledge of Payer Credentialing preferred
  • Ability to use formulas in Excel and present reports or surveys as necessary
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required
  • Must have knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance regulations
  • Computer skills required
  • Basic knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Ability add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent; Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and manage stress, anger, or potential violence of others appropriately
  • Leadership skills, including ability to manage a diverse team and act as role model to employees
