Assembles minor products or components with a small number of details within routine and highly repetitive assembly operations. Typically works at a workbench or on a conveyer line. Common tasks include checking, sorting, packaging, labeling, pasting, sniping, tying, or trimming either manually or by machine. Performs basic equipment adjustments, routine maintenance, and cleaning. May perform miscellaneous jobs such as moving assemblies/machines or cleaning floors. Typically has 0-2 years of experience and works under close supervision. Typical job titles include: General Labor, Machine Operator, Maker/Packer, Assembler and Line Operator.

Primary Job Functions

This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all job functions.

  • Removes, cleans, repairs, tests, and applies valves and fittings when required.
  • Disassembles and assembles fittings on tank cars.
  • Tests tank car, fittings, and valves to reveal possible defects.
  • Rebuilds tank car fittings and valves, and tests them using specified methods.
  • Maintains stock levels of and issues tools, spare parts, safety equipment, and related repair and repair support items to production, maintenance, and other production support personnel.
  • Performs inspection to issued items to ensure that they are safe and in satisfactory condition.
  • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, GED, or pass a Combined Basic Skills Test
  • Must have mechanical abilities and be familiar with power tools
  • Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently
  • Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions
  • Safety and quality focused
  • Willingness to wear required PPE at all times and always work safely.
  • Be available to work any shift, and be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract

Environmental & Working Conditions

  • Moderate to heavy physical effort involves climbing, ascending or descending ladders, lifting, and carrying of tools and equipment
