About Safe Harbor: Safe Harbor is a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides pathways for people impacted by domestic abuse to survive and thrive and raises awareness of domestic abuse through community engagement and education in Greenville, Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens Counties. Our services include a 24/7 helpline, emergency shelters, therapy, case management, legal advocacy, housing assistance, and trainings through education and prevention.

Internship Summary: As a Development Intern, you will assist with donor communications and stewardship efforts while supporting the planning and execution of fundraising initiatives and events. You will help with database maintenance and updating, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of donor and client records. In addition, you will collaborate with development team members as needed to create reports, presentations, or materials, track and fulfill program needs, conduct research for community partnering opportunities, and engage in outreach activities.

This internship will take place in-person primarily at Safe Harbor offices and facilities in Greenville County and requires availability to work during operating business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm) and some evening and weekend hours. There will be occasional travel required to community partner or Safe Harbor facilities in Greenville, Oconee, Anderson, or Pickens Counties.

 

This internship is part time and unpaid but will fulfill practicum requirements for many major programs.

Reports To: Development Manager

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with community engagement efforts which may include attending tabling events, facilitating Safe Harbor informational presentations
  • Track and assist in the distribution of outreach materials in the community
  • Maintain and update donor database, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of records
  • Assist with donor communications, including making phone calls, drafting thank-you letters and emails, and preparing and sending tax receipts
  • Help organize and promote seasonal fundraising initiatives
  • Support event planning, communications, and setup for fundraising and donor appreciation events
  • Conduct research to identify prospective donors and community partnering opportunities
  • Assist in contacting and securing in-kind donations for ongoing program needs and client events
  • Collaborate with the Development Team on additional support projects as needed

Essential Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written; public speaking experience preferred
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with ability to work on and prioritize various tasks independently
  • Strong research skills with the ability to find, organize, and summarize information from a variety of sources
  • Positive attitude, initiative, and willingness to learn new skills and take on diverse responsibilities
  • Enjoys working collaboratively with others in group settings
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
  • Ability to work a weekly minimum of 4 hours during business hours (M-F, 8:30am-4:30pm) plus occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Comfortable working in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and learning to navigate donor database software (Bloomerang); Canva experience a plus
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License and/or reliable transportation for internship-related travel
