Job description

Dry Utilities Foreman
Independence Excavating is looking for a Dry Utilities Foreman to join our expanding team! This position entails oversight and execution of assigned project directs employees' daily tasks, responsible for all daily paperwork including, employee and equipment schedules, production tracking, dust logs, safety logs &, etc. This position will require experience with technology such as an iPad and/or basic laptop skills.

A typical day looks like:
  • Working with the superintendent to build dry utility crews and develop a plan to perform site earthwork in unison with other crews or other contractors that may be present on site
  • Implementing plan in order to meet project schedule and budget.
  • Installation of dry utilities to meet project specifications
  • Recording and tracking progress and compare vs estimated costs in order to meet or exceed the planned profit margin
  • Working with the superintendent to schedule employees and equipment to keep utilization rates high
  • Communicating with vendors and subcontractors as it relates to utilities
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of related plans and specifications, contractual requirements, and schedules, and communicating progress or any issues with the superintendent and project manager
  • Ensuring the safety of all employees and personnel on site, by maintaining compliance with all applicable OSHA and IX safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Do you have what it takes?
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five plus years previous heavy civil construction experience
  • Strong verbal communication skills to communicate with employees, co-workers, and inspectors
  • Strong organizational skills - responsible for timekeeping, equipment tracking, quantity tracking, and input on schedule development
  • Strong interpersonal skills - ability to manage multiple personality types to lead, motivate and teach crews while maintaining a harmonious work environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret grading plans, specifications, and geotechnical information
  • Experience with different types of equipment spreads
  • Experience with grade checking to meet project plans and specifications utilizing a variety of methods including GPS, rotating laser, stakes and cut sheets, etc.
  • Fundamental knowledge of forecasting and measuring production rates for different equipment spreads
  • Fundamental knowledge of GPS equipment as it applies to grading
  • Fundamental knowledge of drilling and blasting as it applies to earthwork
