Their work ensures that clean water is delivered to homes and businesses, and that wastewater is safely removed and treated. These workers often operate heavy machinery, read blueprints, and follow safety regulations to prevent leaks and contamination. Their role is essential for public health and the efficient operation of municipal water systems.

Job description

Utility Superintendent – Heavy Civil Infrastructure

Location: Greater NYC Area (Five Boroughs)

Compensation: $120,000 – $190,000 (Based on experience) + Performance Bonuses

Relocation: Assistance available for candidates with specific NYC infrastructure experience.

The Mission

Step into a leadership role with a premier heavy civil firm that has defined the Tri-State infrastructure landscape for decades. As a Utility Superintendent, you will be the primary field authority for high-visibility sewer, watermain, and roadwork projects. You will lead multi-crew operations, ensuring that complex utility installations are executed safely, on budget, and to the rigorous standards of NYC agencies (DDC, DEP, DOT).

Key Impact Areas
  • Field Generalship: Supervise and direct multiple labor crews and foremen. You are responsible for scheduling, resource coordination, and ensuring maximum productivity across all self-performed and subcontracted work.

  • Technical Expertise: Manage complex "below-the-pavement" challenges, including Support of Excavation (SOE) methods, dewatering, manhole inspections, and exploratory test pitting.

  • Utility Coordination: Lead the charge in working around private utilities (Con Ed, CET items) and managing mark-outs and survey layouts for field teams.

  • Labor Management: Leverage your deep understanding of NYC Labor Union rules to maintain a high-performing, compliant, and motivated workforce.

  • Resource Optimization: Coordinate with procurement and the shop to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials, minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency.

  • Safety & Quality: Administer the corporate safety program and cultivate a "zero-rework" culture through constant quality audits and site inspections.

Who You Are
  • A NYC Infrastructure Veteran: You have spent at least 15 years in the field, specifically managing heavy civil utility projects within the unique constraints of the Five Boroughs.

  • A Master Planner: You can look at a set of prints and anticipate the labor, equipment, and safety needs weeks in advance.

  • A Problem Solver: Whether it’s an unexpected utility conflict or a challenging dewatering issue, you have the "standard means and methods" knowledge to find a solution.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 15+ years of heavy civil experience as a Utility Superintendent.

  • Industry Focus: Proven track record in waste/stormwater, sewer, and watermain projects.

  • Regional Expertise: Must have extensive experience working with NYC agencies (NYCDDC preferred) and a thorough knowledge of Local NYC Unions.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in mark-outs, utility surveys, and construction management software.

  • Certifications: Valid Driver’s License and OSHA 30 (Required).

  • Physicality: Ability to stand, climb, and walk active job sites, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs in outdoor conditions.

Why Join Our Team?

We offer the opportunity to work on the city's most critical infrastructure projects with a company that values technology and safety.

  • Competitive salary commensurate with your "boots-on-the-ground" expertise.

  • Comprehensive benefits package and clear paths for professional advancement.

  • A stable, collaborative environment with a long history of success.
