Job description

Location: Burlington, Canada

Our Team:

Semtech Corporation is a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors for high-end consumer, enterprise computing, communications, and industrial equipment. As our future market opportunities have increased in recent years, we have continued to invest in disruptive analog platforms and have created innovative new solutions for a wide range of leading-edge products.

Semtech's Global Back End Engineering team is a world-class organization of innovative engineers who enable the success of our entire semiconductor portfolio through cutting-edge test solutions and methodologies. We are the technical backbone that ensures every Semtech product meets the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance. Our team spans multiple sites globally and serves as the center of excellence for back end innovation, working closely with all business units to deliver breakthrough products.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Sr. Staff Program Manager to join the Global Back End Engineering team in Burlington, Ontario. In this high-impact role, you will be the connective tissue between Engineering, Product, Operations, Quality, and our foundry and test house partners - ensuring that new products launch on schedule, that production issues are resolved with urgency and rigor, and that corrective actions drive lasting improvements across the portfolio.

This is a technically grounded program management role in a fast-paced semiconductor environment. You will be expected to understand the engineering context, not just the schedule, and to lead with credibility across multi-functional and multi-site teams.

Responsibilities:

New Product Introduction (NPI) Program Execution (30%)

  • Build and maintain integrated program schedules across Engineering, Design, Operations, and Quality; proactively identify critical path risks and drive mitigation actions.
  • Lead NPI readiness reviews and gate reviews with cross-functional and executive stakeholders, ensuring clear go/no-go criteria and decision ownership.
  • Coordinate resource planning across multi-site engineering teams to meet program commitments under competing priorities.
  • Track and report program health metrics to senior leadership, with structured status communication and escalation protocols.
  • Own the NPI process framework end-to-end, including process documentation, stage gate definitions, and cross-functional sign-off requirements; serve as the accountability anchor ensuring alignment between Engineering execution and QA standards at every phase of the product lifecycle.

Production Issue Resolution & CAR Support (20%)

  • Serve as program lead for high-severity production issues, coordinating rapid cross-functional response across Test & Product Engineering, Design, Quality, and Operations.
  • Drive Corrective Action Report (CAR) processes from initiation through closure, ensuring root cause identification is technically sound and preventive actions are implemented and verified.
  • Maintain accountability for issue resolution timelines; escalate blockers and resource constraints early to minimize customer and yield impact.
  • Establish and maintain structured issue tracking and post-mortem reporting practices across the Back End Engineering organization.
  • Interface with foundry and OSAT partners on production excursions and process-related escapes.

Cross-Functional Stakeholder Management (20%)

  • Act as a primary interface between Back End Engineering and business unit product management, design engineering, operations, and quality assurance teams.
  • Facilitate alignment across organizational boundaries on scope, schedule, and technical trade-offs - translating engineering complexity into business-relevant decisions.
  • Build strong working relationships across all global locations; adapt communication style effectively across cultural and functional contexts.
  • Prepare and deliver executive-level program updates, including C-suite quarterly business reviews; communicate risk, status, and decisions with clarity and confidence.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement within and across the teams you support.

Foundry & OSAT Management (30%)

  • Own end-to-end program management for all foundry and OSAT engagements, spanning new port activities, process transfers, package re-qualifications, test house qualifications, and standard NPI programs - driving schedule, risk management, and stakeholder alignment from kick-off through qualification sign-off.
  • Work through Test & Product Engineering, Design Engineering, and Quality leads to execute deliverables across both port and NPI programs; maintain clear ownership boundaries and escalation paths across the technical team.
  • Build and maintain integrated schedules with clear milestones, resource dependencies, and go/no-go criteria across all active foundry and OSAT programs; proactively surface risks to engineering and business unit leadership.
  • Align NPI engineering tester requirements with Operations across both port activities and standard NPI programs, ensuring capacity, configuration, and readiness commitments are reflected in integrated schedules and validated before qualification milestones.
  • Coordinate across multiple concurrent programs spanning fab transfers, packaging re-qualifications, test house bring-ups, and NPI engagements, balancing shared engineering resources across competing priorities.
  • Ensure readiness reviews are conducted with appropriate rigor across all program types, with documented technical acceptance criteria and sign-off from relevant engineering and quality stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

Our next Program Manager is a technical project manager, with experience driving people, product development or production within the semiconductor/microelectronics space.

  • 7+ years of Program Management experience with a background in product design, test, or production
  • Experience in the semiconductor/IC industry (especially mixed-signal microelectronics)
  • 2+ years in people management
  • 2+ years with direct contacts with customer, contractors and/or suppliers
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong cross functional collaboration with engineering, application & marketing teams to meet deadlines, promoting efficiency, improvements and quality
  • Proficiency in project management and collaboration tools
  • Independent, self-motivated, rigorous, team player and able to follow through
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and synthesis skills, superior documentation
  • Comfortable with changing market & customer requirements and stress situations
  • B.S. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar
