The Energy Engineer is responsible for driving high-value technical assistance initiatives for commercial utility programs. By blending engineering expertise with strategic account development, you will strengthen client relationships, expand service offerings, and deliver technical solutions that align with utility goals and market trends. This role is designed for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical proficiency, customer engagement, and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement & Technical Consulting
  • Engage directly with clients to understand their operational goals, identify emerging needs, and recommend tailored energy efficiency and decarbonization solutions aligned with industry trends.
  • Perform energy audits for commercial sites throughout New England and complete renewable energy feasibility studies with a focus on solar and geothermal systems.
  • Strengthen relationships with existing utility and commercial/industrial clients while proactively identifying opportunities to expand services through collaboration with partners, subcontractors, and key industry stakeholders.

Project Leadership
  • Manage mid-sized consulting projects from concept to completion, including task planning, resource coordination, and oversight of additional staff as needed.
  • Develop and review scopes of work, budgets, and project plans to ensure all milestones, deliverables, and financial targets are met.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate across internal and external teams to execute project assignments efficiently and with high technical quality.
  • Stay informed on advancements in building science, energy efficiency technologies, distributed energy resources, and decarbonization strategies to continuously enhance client value and firm capabilities.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Environmental, Architectural, or a related discipline. Must be ABET accredited or equivalent)
  • 3-5 years' work experience in HVAC, renewable energy, utility, facility management, or consulting field.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, building energy efficiency, grid-responsive technologies, decarbonization technologies, and renewable energy.
  • Hands-on experience with building mechanical systems, distributed energy resources, and electrification/decarbonization technologies.
  • Strong project management skills and proficiency with industry-standard tools/platforms. Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • Proactive, result-driven mindset and willingness to grow beyond current expertise.
  • Strong organizational skills to support travel and coordination of field activities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to meet safety requirements and follow all safety guidelines.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with K-12 school buildings and facilities.
  • Experience analyzing utility bills and calculating energy savings.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Strong data management and analysis skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 tools for word processing, spreadsheets, quantitative analysis, and presentations.
