How much do partial hospitalization jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 4, 2026, the average yearly pay for partial hospitalization in the United States is $103,151.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $69,500.00 and $133,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the typical responsibilities of a professional working in a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?

In a Partial Hospitalization Program, professionals often provide individual and group therapy, conduct patient assessments, develop and monitor treatment plans, and coordinate care with psychiatrists, social workers, and other healthcare providers. The work usually involves daily or near-daily client interactions, as well as documentation and participation in interdisciplinary team meetings. You may also help facilitate family meetings, manage crises, and educate patients and families about mental health resources. This setting offers a supportive team structure and opportunities for professional development, making it ideal for those seeking hands-on experience in mental health treatment and collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Partial Hospitalization position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Partial Hospitalization role, professionals need a background in mental health or behavioral health, relevant clinical licensure (such as LCSW, LPC, LMFT, RN, or related credentials), and experience in therapeutic interventions. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), group therapy facilitation tools, and crisis management protocols is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, and emotional resilience help individuals excel in providing intensive support while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These abilities are crucial because Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs) require delivering structured yet compassionate care to individuals with acute mental health needs outside of inpatient settings.

What is a Partial Hospitalization job?

A Partial Hospitalization job typically involves working in a structured mental health treatment program that provides intensive care during the day while allowing patients to return home in the evening. Professionals in these roles may include therapists, nurses, social workers, and psychiatrists who provide therapy, medication management, and crisis intervention. The goal is to support individuals struggling with mental health or substance use disorders while helping them transition to lower levels of care. This position requires strong clinical skills, empathy, and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
