GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for supervising the Library Page staff at the Main Library. Library Pages' primary job duties include shelving books and other materials and collection maintenance. Work is performed under the supervision of the Library Circulation Manager; does related work as required.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including one evening per week and a weekend rotation.
Although this position is based at the Main Library, the person in this position may be asked to work at other locations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides excellent customer service in a team-based environment in the Main Library Circulation Unit.
  • Hires, supervises, trains, and reviews Full-Time and Part-Time permanent Library Pages as well as coordinates their work schedules.
  • Supervises, trains, and coordinates the work of temporary Library Pages from predetermined community programs and works closely with program liaisons.
  • Coordinates and trains community volunteers on Library Page duties.
  • Shares responsibility for coverage of the Circulation Desk.
  • Shares responsibility for shelving, pulling holds, and maintenance of the library's collection.
  • Supports library circulation functions such as checking items in and out, daily intake and delivery of library materials, pulling holds, shelving, stocking displays, library notices, fee collection, and customer accounts.
  • Registers new borrowers and resolves issues related to library accounts.
  • Assists with money handling to include, but not limited to, daily revenue reports, cash management reports, reconciling cash register, weekly bank deposits, audits, and coin-op machine.
  • Assists with monitoring and answering virtual reference questions via LibAnswers/LibChat.
  • Assists Library Circulation Manager with special projects, as needed.
  • Acts as the Head of Circulation in the absence of the Library Circulation Manager,
  • Serves as Building Manager-on-Duty (MOD), as needed.
  • Serves on system teams and committees, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • General knowledge of library principles, methods, materials, and practices.
  • General knowledge of reader interests and of books and authors.
  • General knowledge of the theory and objectives of a public library system.
  • Some knowledge of print and electronic reference sources.
  • General knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library employees and patrons.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong ability to work with neurodiverse staff.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate subordinate staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and enforce library rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and maintain materials and reference files.
  • Ability to use personal computers, email, word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Sufficient keyboard experience to use automated systems effectively.
  • Excellent internal and external customer service skills.
  • Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with people of all ages.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with study in library science, journalism or a related field and two years of experience in general library services, journalism, or a related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of six months of supervisory experience
  • Ability to speak Spanish, Arabic or Mandarin
