Job Description
Overview of Role
This role calls for a senior leader with deep capital markets expertise and a proven ability to design and lead operating models that support critical client enablement and transformation projects.
The mandate spans client onboarding and offboarding, KYC/AML, client tax governance, client reference data, and broader client journey (one client, franchise client support) and other transformation projects.
The successful candidate will balance client, employee, business, and regulatory priorities while delivering scalable solutions that enhance experience, improve efficiency, and strengthen control.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead a global team of 100+ professionals across North America, Europe, and Asia
  • Oversee a meaningful operating budget
  • Serve on the Capital Markets COO leadership team and contribute to business strategy and performance
  • Partner with Investment & Corporate Banking and Global Markets to align enablement priorities with business needs
  • Lead operating model, technology, and client onboarding initiatives that deliver business, operational, and financial outcomes
  • Provide business leadership for client lifecycle technologies, market data, and related vendor selection and BAU management
  • Identify risks, control gaps, and process inefficiencies, and implement sustainable improvements
  • Track performance against productivity benchmarks and drive operational excellence
  • Liaise with internal audit, regulators, and risk functions as needed

Domain Expertise
The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in:
  • Capital markets, including client structures, products, and service expectations
  • The client lifecycle and leading practices in service delivery
  • Legal and regulatory requirements, including KYC/AML, due diligence, and financial crime prevention
  • Operating model design and process improvement in complex, controlled environments
  • Vendor contract structuring to achieve strong outcomes for BMO stakeholders

Leadership & People Management
  • Lead a global organization across multiple functions and levels of seniority
  • Build high-performing teams aligned with business priorities
  • Influence and collaborate across the bank to deliver integrated outcomes
  • Attract, retain, and develop talent, with a focus on succession planning
  • Drive performance through clear expectations, coaching, and accountability

Risk Management & Governance
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of transaction complexity and associated risks across credit, market, operational, AML/financial crime, legal/compliance, reputational, and jurisdictional dimensions
  • Ensure risks are identified, assessed, and managed in line with the bank's risk appetite
  • Balance client, business, and risk considerations in recommendations and decisions
  • Maintain accountability for effective risk and compliance reporting
  • Embed risk management, internal controls, and compliance into day-to-day operations

Qualifications & Experience
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in capital markets, operations, or enablement
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) or equivalent experience preferred
  • Proven track record leading transformation, including operating model redesign and technology implementation
  • Ability to translate complexity into clear, actionable strategies
  • Results-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and execute with clarity and confidence
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, influencing, and negotiation skills

Please note the base salary for this role is $350,000 USD

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
