Job description

The position of Chaplain is based upon the belief in God and the dignity of the human person as created by God. The chaplain assists patients, families and colleagues in their spiritual and emotional needs during times of illness, injury or stress and serves as a model and source of Christian witness and spiritual presence to believers and non-believers. The chaplain exemplifies and promotes the Mission, Vision and Values of Door County Medical Center in conjunction with its affiliation with Hospital Sisters Health System.
Education Required:
Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an ACPE accredited program, Master's Degree in Theology or related field.
Or
Two units of CPE from an ACPE accredited program
32 master's credit hours in theology or related field
1,000 post-CPE hours in direct ministry
Related Years of Experience Required: Two years' experience as a Chaplain in a clinical health care setting preferred.
Skills Required:

  • Ability to work as a team member, share responsibilities and lead prayer services
  • Ability to communicate effectively using interpersonal and pastoral counseling skills
  • Knowledge of Christian witness inherent in the philosophy of a Catholic health care facility
  • Knowledge of medical-moral theology and bio-ethical decision making
  • Knowledge of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Organizations
  • Skills necessary to respond to the emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of patients, residents, families, and staff
  • Skills necessary to maintain effective working relationships within the hospital, skilled nursing facility and the community
  • Computer skills to document patient interventions on the Electronic Medical Record and to effectively communicate electronically
Shift: Working 20 to 40 hours a week. Flexible on being full-time or part-time.
