Additional Information: Part-time faculty are pooled positions; appointments are made on an as-needed/rolling basis. Assignments for this position will be in-person at YSU-Main Campus
Summary of Position
Teach face-to-face courses in English composition at our Youngstown, Ohio main campus. Course assignments could include the following: Introduction to College Writing (3 workload hours, developmental writing and reading course), Writing 1 with Support (4 workload hours, co-requisite writing course), Writing 1 (3 workload hours, English 101 equivalent), and Writing 2 (3 workload hours, English 102 equivalent). Must be able to provide regular in-person instruction as assigned.
Part-time composition faculty can be assigned up to 11 hours per semester of the above courses which are capped at 22 or 26 students. They must also be available for a minimum of one hour per course per week for student support. Applicants must have excellent oral communication and writing skills.
Compensation is $820 per workload hour for candidates holding a master's degree and $1,075 per workload hour for candidates holding a PhD; assignments are offered on a term-by-term basis. Part-time instructors at YSU may be eligible for partial tuition remission and are enrolled in the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS).

Qualifications and Competencies
Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None.
Sponsorship and/or Work Authorization Status: Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Minimum Qualifications: At least a master's degree in English, writing studies, rhetoric and composition or a closely related field; experience teaching college-level English composition courses; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Blackboard (or an equivalent learning management system); must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of composition theory and pedagogy. Interest and experience in multiple levels of composition, including developmental and honors. Ability to utilize educational technology to support multimodal teaching and learning. Familiarity with L2 pedagogical theories and methods.
Physical Requirements: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this position will perform sedentary work.
Sedentary: work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs may be defined as Sedentary when walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other Sedentary criteria aremet.
