Job description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area.  Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Summary

Ste. Genevieve du Bois Parish is seeking a welcoming, organized, and detail-oriented Part-Time Parish Secretary to support the daily operations of the parish office. This position serves as the first point of contact for parishioners, visitors, and community members while providing administrative, clerical, and communication support to the Pastor, parish staff, ministries, and parish organizations. The Parish Secretary helps ensure the efficient operation of the parish office and contributes to a hospitable and faith-centered environment. This position is scheduled for three days per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday).

Essential Responsibilities
  • Greet visitors, parishioners, vendors, and community members and direct them to the appropriate person or ministry.
  • Answer, screen, and route incoming phone calls; take and relay accurate messages.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the Pastor, parish ministries, and parish organizations.
  • Distribute incoming mail and coordinate outgoing correspondence.
  • Maintain office supplies and coordinate ordering as needed.
  • Prepare and distribute parish communications, including weekly bulletins, Flocknote messages, intercessions, website updates, and other communication materials.
  • Coordinate parish events, facility usage, and maintain the parish calendar.
  • Maintain parishioner records and database information.
  • Assist with sacramental recordkeeping, including baptisms, marriages, funerals, registrations, and other parish records.
  • Coordinate and schedule liturgical volunteers, including Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and Altar Servers.
  • Manage volunteer compliance requirements through the Archdiocesan Prevent and Protect program.
  • Maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized reception and office area.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three to five years of administrative, receptionist, or office experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher.
  • Experience with Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Sheets, Forms) preferred.
  • Experience with Canva, parish communication platforms, or similar software preferred.
  • Experience with bookkeeping, database, or business software preferred.
  • Ability to learn new technology and software applications.

  • General knowledge of and support for the mission, teachings, and practices of the Catholic Church.
