About the Opportunity
Sheakley is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Manager to support a specialized manufacturing operation in Cincinnati, OH.
This is a part-time opportunity for a senior EHS professional with experience in regulated manufacturing, chemical safety, hazardous materials, and advanced production environments. The facility supports the research, development, and manufacturing of high-performance composite materials used in aerospace and defense applications.
The EHS Manager will provide hands-on safety and compliance leadership across operations involving advanced materials, resins, adhesives, solvents, carbon fibers, hazardous chemicals, and high-temperature processes.
About the Environment
This operation develops and manufactures advanced composite material systems used in commercial and military aircraft applications. Products may include lightweight prepregs, resins, adhesives, and hybrid composite systems engineered for extreme temperatures and demanding service environments.
The work environment requires a strong understanding of regulatory compliance, chemical safety, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, emergency response, and safety program management within a quality-driven manufacturing setting.
What You'll Be Doing
The EHS Manager will help maintain and strengthen site EHS programs while partnering with operations, engineering, quality, R&D, and leadership teams.
Key responsibilities include:
✅ Leading and maintaining EHS programs aligned with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state regulations
✅ Supporting compliance with hazard communication, chemical safety, hazardous waste, and emergency response requirements
✅ Conducting risk assessments, audits, inspections, and incident investigations
✅ Driving corrective and preventive actions based on audit findings, incidents, and regulatory requirements
✅ Supporting R&D, pilot operations, and manufacturing scale-up from an EHS compliance perspective
✅ Reviewing SDS documentation, chemical handling practices, PPE requirements, and exposure controls
✅ Supporting industrial hygiene fundamentals, including exposure monitoring, ventilation, and PPE programs
✅ Managing documentation, reporting, training, and regulatory communication
✅ Partnering with site leadership to balance production goals with safety and compliance priorities
✅ Helping reinforce a strong safety culture across a technical manufacturing environment
What We're Looking For
Qualified candidates should bring strong EHS leadership experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably with exposure to aerospace, chemical manufacturing, polymers, composites, advanced materials, or similar technical production settings.
Minimum qualifications:
✅ Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related field
✅ 7 to 10+ years of EHS experience in a regulated manufacturing environment
✅ Experience with hazardous chemicals, resins, solvents, carbon fibers, or advanced materials
✅ Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state EHS regulations
✅ Experience with HAZCOM, chemical safety, hazardous waste, and emergency response programs
✅ Strong documentation, reporting, training, and audit experience
✅ Ability to work independently in a part-time advisory and hands-on EHS capacity
Preferred qualifications:
✅ Master's degree in a related field
✅ Experience in aerospace, defense, chemical manufacturing, composite materials, polymers, or advanced materials production
✅ Experience with high-temperature processes, thermal hazards, combustible dust, fire protection, or hazardous materials shipping
✅ Working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or equivalent EHS management systems
✅ Experience with OSHA PSM, EPA air or wastewater compliance, RCRA hazardous waste, or DOT hazardous materials shipping
Preferred certifications:
✅ CIH, Certified Industrial Hygienist
✅ CSP, Certified Safety Professional
✅ CHMM, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager
