Job description

SAT/ACT & Academic Coach
Gain valuable teaching hours. We are actively hiring at GradePower Learning Naperville and Lisle.
About us
We're a growing chain of learning centers with locations currently on the south end of Naperville and in Lisle. We're hoping to add engaging tutors to our team. We go way beyond simply tutoring, though.
Our teaching methodology is geared toward helping students master their own mind - not to simply get a grade. Tutors are trained in teaching methods that encourage students to continue learning independently after the lesson is done. We coach all ages and all subjects.
We train all of our staff to teach to a high degree of expertise both in and outside their "comfort zone," including K-8 core reading/writing/math skills, ACT/SAT, and study skills.
The Role
Coaches are not simply helping students with worksheets - we're actually teaching concepts, so a high degree of confidence in your subject area is a must.
Coaches work in a 3-1 student-teacher ratio. They facilitate student's time during 1 or 2 hour lessons and teach concepts as needed. We provide robust lesson plans and curriculum for skill development in reading, writing, math, and study habits for all grade levels.
High school subject tutoring will use school syllabi in conjunction with our resource library and study skills curriculum. Tutors will also need to become proficient in ACT/SAT, CogAT, SSAT, and other test formats as needed - training provided as needed.
Strong organization and communication skills are a must. Clear lesson plan notation and communication with coordinators / directors is necessary for teacher-student success.
Right now, our greatest needs are high school Biology, Chemistry, and Math (through AP levels). Candidates proficient in other subject areas are encouraged to apply.
This is an ideal position for those hoping to break into education or gain additional experience for their teaching career.
Must have at least some college experience, Bachelor's preferred. Strong high school graduates may be considered.
Recent graduates and grad students are encouraged to apply.
The Details
No prior teaching or tutoring experience necessary, but strong skills in core subject matter are required.
Must demonstrate skills on SAT or ACT test as part of interview process.
Teaching is in our physical locations - no online tutoring is currently offered.
Flexible scheduling: 2-5 days per week 4-6 hour shifts
Timing from Weekdays 2:30pm-8pm, Saturdays between 10am-4pm (morning or afternoon shift) No Sundays. Daytime hours on school holidays & summers.
Pay is hourly, and you'll be compensated even between students for planning and training time.
Starting rates $18-25 based on skill & experience. $18 hourly during 2-3 week training period, increase based on demonstrated skills.
Annual performance bonus.
We only promote from within. Opportunities for advancement into coordinator and director positions.
This role is in-person. You must be able to commute to either our Naperville or Lisle location. This is not an online position. Relocation packages are not available.
We encourage you to apply if you have the majority of the following requirements:
