Job description

Position Type: Grounds/Grounds-Other Date Posted: 3/19/2026 Location: Maintenance Department Date Available: Immediate Vacancy Closing Date: Open Until Filled Grounds Lead Job Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Grounds Lead is responsible for providing safe and well maintained grounds. Lead will give work direction and assign duty hours to regular employees and additional part-time, temporary, seasonal and student employees and contractors assigned to the department.
  • Lead will perform duties normally associated with the position of Groundsperson such as lawn maintenance, equipment operation and maintenance, playground area maintenance, and other including raking, moving, sweeping, cleaning, re-sodding, fertilizing, painting, snow or trash removal to ensure safe, clean and attractive environment.
    • Responsible for coordinating and maintaining athletic fields including lining and painting. Work with Activities Director and Community Education.
    • Responsible for coordinating maintenance, repair and operation of irrigation equipment throughout the district.
    • Responsible for coordinating pruning, shaping, trimming, mowing, fertilizing grass, trees, shrubs and district landscapes.
    • Maintain inventories of shop supplies and turf care products and participate in the selection and purchase of equipment and supplies
    • Maintain preventative maintenance in order to insure grounds equipment is safe and operable.
  • Determine prioritize and schedule tasks for employees so that essential work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Give work direction and assign duty hours to regular, seasonal and part-time employees.
    • Oversee contracted labor, such as irrigation.
  • Assist when needed with repairs by other district departments: ie custodial, maintenance and transportation.
  • Drive, load, and assist with maintaining commercial Class A combination vehicles within federal motor carrier safety regulations and laws.
  • Perform other duties of a comparable level or type as required.
Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job:
  • Knowledge of fundamentals, practices, and techniques involved in the repair, installation, troubleshooting and maintenance in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of state and federal codes and/or statutes pertaining to areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of hand, power, and equipment/materials applicable to trade and required to perform repair and service needs.
  • Knowledge of all safety precautions, safety equipment and risk management procedures pertaining to specific duties and responsibilities of the work.
  • Ability to work outside or inside in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • No allergies to chemicals
Licenses/Certification preferred: Class A CDL, MN Pesticide License, MN Herbicide License Skilled in:
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, department leads and building personnel.
  • Prioritizing work orders and projects.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Operating and using had and power tools. Operating all equipment, machinery and systems necessary in performance of the job.
  • Following safety and risk management procedures while performing projects.
  • Ability to give work direction.
Salary: $28.17 per hour Custodians 2023-2025 work agreement. Posting will remain open until filled. Positions 1,020 hours or more per year are benefit eligible Benefits offered for this position include:
