Description
The Business Office Student Worker provides front-line customer service and administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations. This role serves as a welcoming point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and guests by offering directions, answering phones, and assisting with general inquiries.
This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, reliability, and a customer-service-oriented attitude.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist students, staff, and guests with directions and general inquiries
- Create, issue, and manage student and staff ID cards
- Process payments accurately and securely
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls in a professional manner
- Assist with receiving, sorting, and processing incoming and outgoing mail
- Distribute parking permits and provide related information
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Business Office
- Maintain office supplies in the Business Office.

- Provide general administrative support to office staff
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
Typical Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Willingness to learn new tasks and follow directions
- Ability to handle cash and payments responsibly and confidentially
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous customer service or office experience is preferred but not required
- Current Thaddeus Stevens College student in good standing
Supplemental Information
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands:
- Work is performed in a professional office setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, and visitors
- Regular use of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, printers, and ID card systems
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while assisting at the front desk
- Occasional walking to distribute mail, assist with office tasks, or escort visitors
- May be required to lift or carry light items (typically up to 15-20 pounds), such as mail bins or office supplies
- Fast-paced environment at times, requiring the ability to manage multiple tasks and interruptions
- Requires clear communication in person and over the phone
- The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
