School of Rock is a growing, passionate community dedicated to enriching lives through performance-based music education. With over 350 schools, and a strong internationally recognized brand, School of Rock is the largest after-school music education provider in the world. We put on shows to teach music! We are looking for a Childcare Music Instructor to join us at our School of Rock Syosset/Oyster Bay location.
School of Rock is looking for an enthusiastic Instructor for our Little Wing (ages 4-5) and Rookies (ages 6-7) classes. Little Wing and Rookies Instructors will help create a warm, supportive and inspiring environment for young musicians aged 4-7, and encourage young children to reach their developmental milestones through fun musical activities and playing rock and roll musical instruments.
We teach five core areas at School of Rock - keys, vocals, guitar, bass and drums. Many of our instructors have broader musical talent as well which we do our best to engage.
Music Instruction:
  • Maximize the quality of music instruction including private lessons and shows
  • Be sure the students are learning the fundamentals of music, not just songs
  • Create and document thoughtful lesson plans
Customer Connection:
  • Communicate regularly with parents on progress of students after lessons
  • Interact with parents and students regularly by being visible and accessible in the school
  • Pitch in during canceled lessons in the overall execution of the program
  • Assist in rehearsals and basic maintenance in school
  • Assist in recruiting and enrolling students
Skill Requirements:
  • 4+ years experience teaching and/or performing music professionally
  • Has a passion for and/or experience working with children under the age of seven (7)
  • Classroom/early childhood education experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design; concepts in music like rhythm, notation, pop and rock genres
  • Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers, including but not limited to, children and parents
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Very strong customer relations skills on the phone and in person
  • Resourceful and good problem-solver
  • Works well under pressure
  • Ideal candidate is proficient on at least one: guitar, keyboard/piano, drums, voice.
  • Good judgment a must
  • Part time, some weekend day availability required.
