Job description

St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, located in Fallston, MD seeks candidates for a Coordinator of Liturgical Music. The Coordinator Music Ministry is a missionary disciple who embraces music ministry as a vital component of parish life. In addition, the Coordinator is a member of the parish staff motivated by a pastoral sensitivity to the celebration of Catholic liturgy and ritual and the importance of music to the liturgy. In conjunction with the pastor, the Coordinator provides leadership in the planning, execution and celebration of all parish liturgies including music leadership by directing, planning, and coordinating the parish music programs. This is a part-time position, working 19 weekly hours.
Essential Functions
Coordination and Administration
  • Serve as member of the Parish Staff and the Liturgy Committee.
  • Participate in decision-making regarding overall and liturgically specific parish direction and activities.
  • Prepare and manage the music portion of the annual budget.
  • Maintain the parish music library.
  • Schedules regular maintenance of equipment: organ, piano, sound system, etc.

Worship
  • Directs and rehearses Parish traditional choir and contemporary group and provides organ and/or piano accompaniment. Rehearsals are currently Wednesday and Thursday evenings and weekly Masses are at 9 and 11am from September through Corpus Christi.
  • Provides organ and/or piano accompaniment for Saturday evening Mass.
  • Works with the Pastor to discern parish worship and prayer needs and to assure quality liturgical celebrations and sacramental services including (but not limited to) Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, Christmas, Easter, the Paschal Triduum, and Stations of the Cross including organ and/or piano accompaniment.
  • Coordinate scheduling and training music ministers for all liturgies.
  • Provide materials and/or training for the preparation of cantors/song-leaders, musicians, and other parish related music programs/events.

Education/Formation
  • Maintains awareness of Catholic liturgical theology and music including contemporary praise and worship and traditional Catholic church music.
  • Serve as a resource to religious education/formation staff and catechists in selecting music and planning liturgies and prayer services.
  • Invite, encourage, and enhance assembly participation in the ongoing expansion of the parish music repertoire and liturgy.
  • Recruits and trains new members for parish music ministries.

Position Qualifications
  • Practicing Catholic willing to engage in the faith life of our parish.
  • Degree in Liturgy, Liturgical Music, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated vocal and keyboard/piano proficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate/coordinate with parishioners and parish staff.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay Rate: $25.00 - $30.00, Hourly
