Position title: J Street Government Affairs Intern
Reports to: Associate Director of Government Affairs
Location: Washington, DC in-person preferred
Duration: 2-3 months (roughly Labor Day until Thanksgiving)
Hours: Part Time (15 hours per week)
Compensation: $19/hour
About J Street
J Street is the political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans working for the future of Israel as the democratic homeland of the Jewish people. The organization believes that preserving Israel's Jewish and democratic character depends on achieving a two-state solution, resulting in a Palestinian state living alongside Israel in peace and security.
J Street focuses its work in three main areas: (1) Advocating and demonstrating support for pro-Israel, pro-peace policies in Congress, the media and the Jewish community; (2) Endorsing and raising money for federal candidates who share J Street's agenda; and (3) Educating the public and raising awareness of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the two-state solution.
The Position
J Street is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to join the Government Affairs team for 3 months starting September 2026. This individual will play a key supporting role in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment - a great learning opportunity for a student considering a career in government relations or advocacy work.
This intern will assist the Government Affairs team in its day-to-day responsibilities to advance J Street's pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy legislative agenda on Capitol Hill, and can expect an inside look at J Street's lobbying and advocacy work. This part-time position will be based out of J Street's DC office.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor congressional hearings and other relevant briefings and events
  • Support the team with data management and legislative tracking
  • Assist Government Affairs team members in analyzing relevant legislation and writing advocacy materials
  • Compile materials and articles for congressional education and news roundups
  • Research topics related to Congress, U.S. policy, and events in the Middle East
  • Update Government Affairs materials
  • Complete other administrative and organizational tasks as needed

Compensation and Time Commitment
This part-time internship is paid $19/hour. Fellows can expect to work 15 hours per week, exact schedule flexible based on availability.
