Description
SUMMARY
The Fitness Instructor is a service-driven wellness professional responsible for delivering safe, effective, and consistently exceptional fitness experiences to Rancho Valencia guests and members. The role may include personal training, group fitness instruction, or both, based on individual qualifications and business needs. All services must be provided in alignment with Rancho Valencia's luxury service standards, professionalism, and commitment to guest well-being.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Deliver a consistently high level of service to all guests, members, and colleagues in accordance with Rancho Valencia's service and conduct standards.
  2. Provide safe, effective, and engaging personal training sessions and/or group fitness classes based on certifications held and assignments given.
  3. Design and implement individualized exercise programs that align with client goals, fitness levels, and health considerations, as applicable.
  4. Conduct fitness consultations and assessments in accordance with resort protocols, when assigned.
  5. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of client participation, programs, and progress.
  6. Support departmental goals related to guest experience, class participation, service quality, and revenue generation.
  7. Build and maintain professional relationships with guests and members consistent with a luxury hospitality environment.
  8. Demonstrate proper use of fitness equipment and safe exercise techniques, including the ability to lift and move equipment or weights as required.
  9. Report to all scheduled shifts, sessions, and classes punctually and prepared to perform assigned duties.
  10. Follow all scheduling, substitution, and coverage procedures, including advance notice and management approval for changes.
  11. Communicate clearly, professionally, and promptly with management, colleagues, and guests.
  12. Participate in required meetings, trainings, continuing education, and special events.
  13. Adhere to all Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  14. Escalate guest feedback, service concerns, or operational issues promptly to the assigned Management team.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned to support spa and resort operations.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Current and valid Personal Training, Group Exercise, Pilates, or specialty fitness certification appropriate to assigned services (e.g., Yoga, Pilates, TRX, Barre).
2. Current CPR/AED certification.
3. Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in the fitness or wellness industry.
4. Ability to work a fixed, established schedule, including weekends, holidays, mornings, and evenings, based on operational needs.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening and the ability to effectively communicate in English with guests and staff.
6. Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service with a proactive, enthusiastic, and solutions-oriented approach.
7. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Essential:
1. Professional appearance and conduct consistent with luxury resort standards.
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality of guest, member, and resort information at all times.
3. Sound judgment and the ability to remain composed and professional in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.
4. Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
5. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Desired:
1. Five (5) or more years of experience as a Personal Trainer and/or Group Fitness Instructor.
2. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, continuing education, and maintenance of current certifications.
3. Prior experience in a luxury resort, five-star hotel, high-end spa, or premium private club setting.
4. Familiarity with elevated guest service expectations and personalized wellness delivery.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Frequent or occasional need to perform the following physical activities: reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting, and climbing. Have frequent need to perform standing and walking activities.
2. Constant need to perform the following physical activities: grasping, turning, finger dexterity.
4. Lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs. frequently and 60lbs. occasionally.
5. Vision requirements: constant need to view small print. Frequent need to see small details and things clearly beyond arms' reach.
6. Hearing requirements: constant need to speak on telephone and/or two-way radio, respond to general public and converse with staff. Ability to hear fire alarms and emergency equipment.
