POSITION SUMMARY

Theย Part-Time Library Associate โ€“ Patron Experienceย provides excellent customer serviceย byย assistingย library patrons with circulation services, account help, finding library resources, answeringย general questions, and providing basic technologyย assistance. Promptly processes library materials to ensure patron access and accuracy of records.ย ย 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to:ย  Library Supervisor - Patron Experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive.ย  They may be modified with additions, deletions, or changes as necessary.

Customer Service (70%)
  • Daily, deliverย circulation services, including issuing new cards and using the integrated library system (Sierra) to check materials in and out.ย 
  • Daily, provideย library information, technology assistance,ย referrals,ย and readerโ€™sย advisory guidance to patrons in person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Daily, use high-level customer service and reference interview skills toย determineย and respond to patron needs in person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Daily, promote an inclusive and welcoming environment for staff and patrons, and uphold City of Englewood and Library values.
    Operational Support (20%)
    • Daily, prepare items accurately to fulfill patron holds, for return to partner libraries, and process materials delivered through courier service.
    • Daily, complete opening and closing procedures at the service desk.
    • Daily, assistย with local shelving of returned materials.
    • As scheduled, review updates or changes to Library policies and procedures and adhere to policies and procedures and/or communicate policies and procedures toย patronsย as necessary.ย 
    • As scheduled, createย inviting displays of library materials and develop thematic lists of books and other resources in collaboration with other library staff
    • As scheduled, ensure accuracy of database by updating location codes and item status as needed.ย ย ย 
    • As scheduled, assistย with evaluating andย maintainingย the existing collection through recommendations andย weedingย materialsย in accordance withย established guidelines.ย 
    Community Engagement and Program Development (5%)
    • As scheduled, share information on library services and programs as well as current activities of the department and City with patrons and staff.ย 
    • As scheduled, assist with the implementation and hosting of programming in the library.
    • As scheduled, may participate in library outreach to promote library card sign-ups and other library services.
    Other Duties and Responsibilities (5%)
    • As scheduled, may be tasked with support of additional projects managed by the Librarian or Library Supervisor.ย ย ย 
    • As scheduled, may work directly with volunteers, providing information on assigned tasks or assisting with training volunteers on shelving responsibilities.ย

    PREPARATION AND TRAININGEducation
    • Bachelorโ€™s degreeย in any fieldย required.

    An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.ย 

    Work Experience
    • 2ย yearsย of customer service experience required. Public library and/or bookstore experience preferred.ย 

    • Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations is preferred.ย

    PHYSICAL EXERTION

    ย  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    May require evening and weekend hours. Work is performed in a standard library environment, involving direct interaction with patrons, technology use, and occasional outreach activities.ย  Work may also be performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time. This job requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment for extended periods of time.ย
