Position Overview:

Under general supervision from the Library Director, the Library Assistant (classification: 4996) works independently to provide library support services in both a physical and digital space. This position is responsible for processing of physical and digital collections and collaborating with other departments on campus as appropriate.

Part-Time averaging about 15-20 hours per week, 9 month appointment

Compensation and Term:

  • Part-time 15-20 hours 
  • Compensation commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic discipline.
  • Competitive benefits including health and retirement.

Appointment and Reporting:

  • Reports to the Director of the Library.
  • Hired through a local/regional search.

Functions and Duties:

  • Processing of physical collections, including accessioning, sorting, and arranging historical records with the possibility of applying different criteria to different projects
  • Creation of finding aids for collections or metadata for digital collections as appropriate.
  • Assists with digitization projects including scanning materials, creating metadata, and uploading materials, and assisting with quality control of scanned documents and metadata.
Qualifications
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of college coursework and/or relevant library experience. 
  • Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competence, and achievement in working with diverse student populations;
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and communication skills; 
  • Excellent computer literacy and proficiency  
  • Final offer contingent on successful background verification check, verification of ability to work in the United States, and receipt of official college transcripts..

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or three years of college education plus two years of relevant library experience or five years of relevant library experience; 
  • Experience in a higher education library setting; 
  • Experience with integrated library systems, preferably Archives Space;
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; 
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to the land-grant mission of the University of Minnesota Crookston, especially as related to access and student success.
     
Pay and Benefits
 

Pay Range: $23.59 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 50% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
