Position Purpose:
This position is responsible for providing assistance with the physical, educational and social needs of students as an Instructional Aide (Class III) or Intensive Instructional Aide (Class II) assignment. Intensive Instructional Aides are providing support for acute, uniquely intense student needs on an ongoing, regular basis and may be assigned to Special Education Consortium Classrooms or assigned directly to a student. See position descriptions below for specific assignment information.
Position Descriptions:
  • ILS Aide- Works in an Intensive Learning Support classroom setting and will be split between going into the general education classes and/or working with small groups in the ILS room in the areas of math, English and reading.
  • PACE Classroom- Works in Life Skills classroom setting. Helps with small groups to include helping students get to other areas in the building (i.e. nurse, library, restroom, vans, etc). Will go into a few classes with students when they have a class outside of the PACE classroom.
  • Learning Support Aide- Working primarily in learning support classroom but will go into general education classes to help support students in their classes. Helps students with their schoolwork and assists the learning support teacher with progress monitoring.
  • ES Aide- Working primarily in an emotional support classroom but will go into general education classes to help support students in their classes. Helps students with their schoolwork and assists the emotional support teacher with progress monitoring.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Provide academic, social, and life skills support and instruction to students as directed by the teacher, principal and/or specialist in accordance with the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP), if applicable
2. Collaborate with teachers and staff in the overall educational and social development of students
3. Perform and monitor instructional activities as directed by the teacher and/or principal
4. Assist with established student disciplinary procedures as directed by the teacher and/or principal
5. Assist with the implementation of behavior support plans
6. Provide updates to appropriate teachers and/or administrators regarding student academic progress, behavioral changes or concerns, and physical needs.
7. Complete required district training programs and continuing education hours as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)
8. Strictly comply with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) confidentiality obligations
9. Adhere to daily duties and instructional schedules as established by the teacher and/or principal
10. Provide coverage in any/all district classrooms, buildings, or facilities as needed, including but not limited to: classroom coverage, recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal
11. Assist students to and from school buses and vehicles as needed
12. Recognize teacher and/or principal as having authority in managing all student programs
13. Assist with the preparation of classroom materials, bulletin boards, and other displays
14. Act as a positive social and emotional role model for students
15. Encourage and model a positive, mutually supportive classroom and building environment
Additional Duties:
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism
  • Perform clerical, housekeeping and other duties as assigned by the teacher and/or principal

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A high school diploma or equivalent. Basic computer competency skills are required. The following clearances must be provided upon hire and updated every 5 years: PA State Police, Child Abuse, and FBI Fingerprint. Child Abuse training (or proof of completion) in accordance with Act 126 upon hire and repeated every 5 years thereafter. A negative TB test is required upon hire.
SPECIAL SKILLS: Ability and desire to work with children of all abilities. Confidentiality and patience are essential.
