The base pay scale for this position is $23.35 - $35.51. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. JOB DESCRIPTION: Part Time Laboratory Support Assistant/Technician
HSS Research Institute, Orthopedic Soft Tissue Research Program
Location: HSS Research Institute, Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, NY
Research Focus: The Moore lab is seeking a part time technician to support translational research projects aiming to improve recovery from orthopedic soft tissue injuries.
ABOUT THE RESEARCH INSTITUTE:
The HSS Research Institute is dedicated to identifying mechanisms underlying bone biology and rheumatic conditions and to developing effective approaches for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. With a focus on tissue repair, improving surgical outcomes, autoimmunity and inflammation, genomics, new treatments, and precision medicine, our discoveries determine the future directions of musculoskeletal research to best improve clinical outcomes, while serving the community in an environment that aspires to scientific excellence.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the PI or laboratory manager, provides maintenance support for the laboratory's daily operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains inventory of shared laboratory supplies
• Tracks usage of supplies and maintains a database of supplies
• Orders supplies as needed
• Ensures organization of supply storage areas
Maintains inventory of research equipment and assists in maintenance of shared spaces
• Contacts service providers as needed to repair equipment
• Maintains emergency contact information for freezers
• Assists in management of shared equipment
• Assists in arranging biohazardous waste and sharps collection as needed
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience working in a lab environment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and Word
  • College degree required
  • Must be organized and able to work with minimal supervision, and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and specifications of specified laboratory equipment and/or facilities
  • General knowledge of specified laboratory solutions, materials, and/or media
  • Requires moderate physical work such as lifting packages and boxes of supplies
