Gas Chromatography & Gas Measurement Specialist

Role Overview

The Gas Chromatography & Gas Measurement Specialist ensures the accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance of custody transfer gas measurement systems. This role focuses on operating, maintaining, and calibrating gas chromatographs (GCs) and electronic flow meters (EFMs) across midstream gathering systems and processing plants in the Delaware Basin.

Job Details

• Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)

• Location: Pecos, Texas Field Office (Delaware Basin Assets)

• Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience, eligible for overtime pay.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Calibration

• Calibrate GCs: Perform routine and emergency calibration of online Emerson (Daniel) and ABB gas chromatographs.

• Maintain hardware: Troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul GC valves, columns, and thermal conductivity detectors (TCD).

• Validate and calibrate ABB and TotalFlow electronic flow meters (EFMs) and orifice stations.

• Manage carrier gases: Monitor and replace helium, hydrogen, and specialized calibration gas cylinders safely.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Review data: Analyze daily chromatograms for baseline shifts, peak integration errors, or retention time drifts.

• Audit standards: Ensure all measurement facilities strictly comply with API MPMS, GPA, and BLM standards.

• Collect samples: Obtain representative spot and continuous composite gas/liquid samples per GPA 2166 and 2174.

Software & Systems Integration

• Configure EFMs: Program, calibrate, and pull data from TotalFlow and ABB flow computers.

• Utilize software: Work fluently with GC diagnostic software including MON2000, MON3000, and ABB PCCU.

• Manage Scada & Flow-Cal Data: Ensure seamless data stream transfer into the Flow-Cal measurement database.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

• Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on gas measurement experience in gathering or processing environments.

• Education: Associate degree in instrumentation, electronics, or equivalent field-validated technical experience.

• Certifications: Industry-recognized measurement training (e.g., ASGMT, ISHM, or manufacturer-specific certifications) preferred.

Technical Competencies

• System expertise: Advanced troubleshooting skills for Emerson (Daniel) 500/700 series and ABB NGC chromatographs.

• Standards knowledge: Strong working knowledge of AGA 3, AGA 8, GPA 2145, and GPA 2172 calculations.

• Analytical skills: Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams for field instrumentation.

Physical & Travel Requirements

• Field mobility: Travel daily to various Permian/Delaware Basin gathering pipelines, compressor stations, and plants.

• Environment: Comfort working outdoors in remote West Texas locations and extreme weather conditions.

• Physical capacity: Ability to lift 50 lbs. and climb stairs or platforms safely.
