POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position is located within the State Fuel Oil Laboratory of the GDA Laboratory Division, located in Tifton, Georgia.

1.ย ย ย ย ย  The Fuel Oil Laboratory is responsible for testing samples of motor, aviation, and renewable fuels sold in Georgia forย purity, performance, octane rating, and other quality standards.

2.ย ย ย ย ย  Kerosene and antifreezeย are analyzed for product safety and performance requirements.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general supervision, collects and organizes data and conducts analyses; provides technical assistance to staff; monitors and analyzes databases.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Performs receiving, logging, and visual inspection, and prepares samples to be processed.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Performs analysis of gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, jet fuels, motor oils, diesel exhaust fluids, and all other petroleum-related products using methodologies established by ASTM.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Collects and organizes lab testing data.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Prepares and submits recurring and on-demand reports within established timeframes.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Enters laboratory test data into the laboratory information system.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Inspects laboratory facility and equipment for compliance and specifications.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Provides technical assistance to management and fuel inspectors.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Monitors and analyzes databases (petroleum products and antifreeze).

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintains inventory supply of chemicals and daily consumables.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Constant standing/walking

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Lift 25-pound fuel samples and sample containers

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  May exposure to petroleum vapors

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Exposure to different temperature environments

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited college or university.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.ย ย ย ย ย  Bachelor's degree in physical or natural science from an accredited college or university, which included at least one course in mathematics, statistics, research methods, or a related field.

2.ย ย ย ย ย  Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), and PC based software is preferred.

3.ย ย ย ย ย  Previous laboratory experience.

4.ย ย ย ย ย  Basic college courses in mathematics, statistics, research methods, or a related field.
