What is a part time HR Business Partner?

Part-time HR Business Partners are human resources professionals who work reduced hours, typically less than a standard full-time schedule, while providing strategic HR support to an organization. Their responsibilities often include advising managers on HR policies, handling employee relations, supporting talent management initiatives, and ensuring compliance with labor laws. Despite working part-time, they play a crucial role in aligning HR strategies with business objectives, often serving multiple departments or business units. This flexible arrangement allows organizations to benefit from experienced HR expertise without the commitment of a full-time salary, making it ideal for smaller companies or those with fluctuating HR needs.

How do part time HR Business Partners balance strategic initiatives with day-to-day HR responsibilities?

Part-time HR Business Partners often need to prioritize tasks efficiently, as their limited hours require them to focus on high-impact activities. They usually collaborate closely with line managers to address immediate employee relations issues, while also dedicating set times to support longer-term projects such as talent development or process improvement. Communication and clear alignment with leadership are key to ensuring that both operational and strategic HR needs are met. Many organizations support part-time HRBPs through shared services models or by delegating administrative tasks to HR coordinators, allowing them to focus on advisory and partnership roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time HR Business Partner?

To thrive as a Part Time HR Business Partner, you typically need a solid background in human resources, employment law, and organizational development, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in HR or related fields. Familiarity with HRIS systems, payroll software, and certifications like SHRM-CP or PHR are advantageous. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication set outstanding HR Business Partners apart. These skills and qualifications are essential for aligning HR strategies with business goals and supporting both employees and management efficiently.

Job description

Mark III Construction is looking for a bilingual Part-Time HR & Recruiting Coordinator to support our growing Reno operation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional who enjoys working directly with employees, candidates, and field leadership and wants to grow into a full-time HR role.

The successful candidate will serve as a local extension of Mark III's HR team, helping ensure new employees have a positive, organized, and professional experience from the time they accept an offer through their onboarding and orientation.

This position will have a strong emphasis on employee onboarding, new-hire orientation, HR administration, employee communication, and local recruiting support. The individual must be comfortable speaking in front of groups, presenting company information, interacting with field employees and leaders, and representing Mark III professionally in the Reno market.

As Mark III continues to grow in Reno, this role has the potential to expand into a full-time HR position with increased responsibility.

Who we are:

Mark III is a full-service construction company comprised of three complementary business units: M3 MEP, M3 Service, and M3 Components. We support projects from initial concept through long-term maintenance, with specialized expertise in healthcare, higher education, industrial, life science, and technology markets.

Our integrated, big-picture approach allows us to self-perform electrical, HVAC, plumbing, process piping, prefabrication, and MEP design. By consolidating these services under one organization, clients benefit from reduced profit layers, minimized scope gaps, and simplified project schedules-working with a single, accountable partner rather than multiple consultants and subcontractors.

Headquartered in Sacramento, California, Mark III operates throughout California and Nevada. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility serves as a centralized hub supporting five core trades: HVAC, mechanical piping, plumbing, electrical, and metal-stud framing. To support our continued growth, we will be relocating from our current combined 62,000 square feet of office and operational space to a new 340,000-square-foot headquarters at 2031 Optisolar Lane, with the move planned for completion by the end of Q3 2026.
