The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center-an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility-as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Histology/Cyto Clerk - Histology - Part Time, Days - Path Grossing Lab-ASC-Suffolk - Monday - Friday Alternating Days 8:00AM - 4:00PM; 11.25 Hours Per Week.
In this role, the successful candidate Under general supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, performs a variety of clerical duties as required by the Histology/Cytology section. Types, files and maintains neat and accurate records, while accommodating a fluctuating workload.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Clerical Performance Expectations:
• Ability to properly identify and in an orderly fashion accession patient samples into A/P program.
• Maintains, updates and distributes all necessary reports.
• Organizes time to accommodate changing workflow.
• Recognizes patient confidentiality issues and faxes results to responsible physician only.
• Able to obtain and relay information in clear and accurate manner
• Monitors office and department supplies.
2. Histology/Pathology Performance Expectations:
• Must be familiar with different specimen types. Able to organize, verify proper preservatives and process accordingly.
• Understands clinical relevance in all areas of responsibility.
• Organizes work well so others can take over for them in their absence.
• Performs universal precautions with each function.
• Performs all tasks accurately.
• Relays to supervisor any inconsistency identification or labeling.
• Accessions and processes specimens in an organized and timely fashion for gross examination.
• Must follow proper procedures for identifying, verifying and transporting patient samples from the Operating Room and Ambulatory Surgery Area
Communication Performance Expectations:
• Communicates clearly and concisely
• Listens attentively and follows direction
• Demonstrates proper telephone techniques and etiquette
• Effectively utilizes the computer to process specimens, reports results and access information.
• Communicates ideas and suggestions with a positive intent
• Conveys respect for the profession
• Works well in cooperation with others.
• Communicates knowledge and demonstrates procedures effectively to coworkers and students
Cytology Performance Expectations:
• Understands and identifies appropriate criteria for accepting specimens.
• Accurately labels cytology specimens.
• Maintains records of all positive cytology cases.
• Maintains and updates records and files.
• Distributes reports to proper areas
• Updates all necessary logs to conform to third-party regulatory agencies.
• Handles routine use of Reference Lab Computer System
Other Functions and Performance Expectations:
• Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance
• Reports to assigned area on time for scheduled shift
• Adheres to hospital/department dress code. Arrives to work appropriately dressed, ell groomed and neat.
• Completes all hospital requirements at designated time (i.e. annual assessment, educational, MedNetTra)
• Follows call-in procedure when sick, late or absent.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma
Knowledge of medical terminology
Updated computer skills
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and provide information
Ability to pay close attention to details in all performance expectations
General Typing and filing knowledge
Knowledge of universal precautions
