Job description

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager, Clinical Laboratory - Histology - Full Time. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for managing quality and quantity of work, procedures, personnel, and costs for the clinical laboratory. Formulate goals, assign objectives, establish standards of practice, and ensure continuity of services. Supervises and ensures proper performance of all techniques and procedures associated with clinical laboratory testing.

Job Responsibilities
  • Validation of new testing in the laboratory. Works with the director and administrative director to develop new tests as needed in the laboratory.
  • Management of staff: Assigns responsibilities, establishes work hours, monitors staffing, and approves necessary overtime.
  • Staff Development, Evaluation, Counseling, and Personnel related activities: Oversees supervision of the entire staff. Interviews prospective employees, evaluates and documents staff performance, and performs personnel counseling. Recognizes and identifies staff needs and develops programs to meet needs.
  • Procedure Development and Quality Control: Develops and implements laboratory operating policies and procedures (including quality control standards), with ongoing development/modification of the laboratory's quality control program and requirements for regulatory agencies. Maintains relevant records consistent with regulatory standards.
  • Planning and Budgeting/Cost Containment: Participates in cost control activities by seeking the most effective method of delivering quality services, and maintains an awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions.
  • Equipment procurement.
  • Time utilization/Behavioral Standards: Acts appropriately in prioritizing and coordinating responsibilities and duties to ensure the smooth operation of the laboratory. Cooperates and communicates effectively with staff and directors.
  • Reports/Documentation: Works in conjunction with the Director to prepare reports and oversee all departmental documentation.
  • The Laboratory Manager will work with the Quality Manager to prepare for inspections and follow up on quality-related issues in the laboratory. The manager should be able to perform the Quality Manager responsibility if necessary.
  • Resolve any administrative issues delegated/assigned by the Laboratory Administrative Director.
  • Perform the responsibilities of the Laboratory Safety Officer.
  • Manage Gross Room activities and grossing.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Science or a related field.
  • NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Minimum of Four years in a clinical laboratory with supervisory/management responsibilities and knowledge in all areas of the clinical laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASCP certification.
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of NYS and CAP regulatory requirements with anatomical and histology laboratory testing.
  • Familiarity with instrument interfaces and functionality of laboratory Information Systems.

Salary range: $84,956.87 - $143,709.52 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
