Job description

Law Clerk (Part-Time)

Build Your Litigation Career While You're Still in Law School
Are you looking for more than a typical law clerk position?
At Josephson Dunlap, LLP, our law clerks work directly with attorneys on sophisticated litigation, gaining meaningful, hands-on experience that prepares them for successful careers after graduation.
As one of the nation's leading plaintiffs' employment law firms, Josephson Dunlap represents workers nationwide in complex wage and hour class actions, collective actions, and arbitrations. Our attorneys litigate cutting-edge employment cases involving unpaid overtime, employee misclassification, off-the-clock work, regular rate disputes, PAGA claims, and other workplace rights.
We're looking for motivated law students who are eager to develop their research, writing, and litigation skills while working alongside experienced trial attorneys.

Why Join Josephson Dunlap?
  • Perform meaningful legal work from your first day
  • Work directly with partners and experienced litigators
  • Gain exposure to complex federal and state litigation
  • Develop exceptional legal research and persuasive writing skills
  • Observe depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials when opportunities arise
  • Receive mentorship from attorneys invested in your professional development
  • Opportunity to transition into a full-time Associate or Briefing Attorney position after graduation
What You'll Do
As a Law Clerk, you'll become an integral member of our litigation team by:
  • Conducting legal research on federal and state employment laws, procedural issues, and emerging legal developments
  • Drafting legal memoranda, research summaries, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents
  • Reviewing client files, intake materials, pleadings, discovery, and supporting evidence to become familiar with assigned cases
  • Assisting attorneys with case strategy by identifying relevant legal authority and analyzing complex legal issues
  • Reviewing local court rules, standing orders, and individual judges' procedures
  • Assisting with discovery, document review, and trial preparation
  • Helping prepare legal analyses, position statements, and briefing on contested legal issues
  • Proofreading and cite-checking legal filings to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Attending attorney strategy meetings and collaborating with litigation teams on active cases
Qualifications
We're looking for students who have:
  • Completed at least one year of law school (2Ls and 3Ls preferred; exceptional 1Ls will also be considered)
  • Strong academic performance
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced litigation environment
  • A collaborative attitude and eagerness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
  • Law Review, Journal, Moot Court, or Mock Trial experience
  • Judicial internship or externship experience
  • Prior legal internship or clerkship experience
  • Interest in litigation, employment law, or class action practice
Previous wage and hour experience is not required.

What You'll Gain
  • Our goal is to provide an experience that bridges the gap between law school and legal practice. You'll leave with:
  • Practical litigation experience on complex cases
  • Advanced legal research and persuasive writing skills
  • Mentorship from experienced litigators
  • Exposure to federal and state court practice
  • Professional relationships that will support your legal career
  • The opportunity to earn a full-time position with the firm after graduation
Compensation amp; Benefits
  • Competitive hourly compensation: $20-$23 per hour, based on experience and academic standing
  • Flexible scheduling during the academic year
  • Full-time opportunities during summer and school breaks
  • Mentorship and professional development
  • Opportunity for long-term career growth with the firm
