Part-Time SASS Crisis Specialist
Job Description
Classification: Non-exempt
Reports to: Manager of SASS Crisis Services
Type: Part-Time
Location: Community-Based
Hours: 10-29 hours per week
SUMMARY
Crisis Specialists perform crisis assessments and case management services for youth and families who are experiencing a mental health crisis as part of the Screening Assessment and Support Services (SASS) program. This position is part-time (both day and on-call availability required): 10-29 hours per week. Direct service to other duties ratio is 80:20.

SCHEDULE:
You are responsible for working a minimum of five shifts per week and must include the following:
  • Two on-call shifts per week
  • Two day time shifts per week, dependent upon the number of on-call shifts selected
  • Supervisors may require the part time crisis worker come in person for individual supervisions or during their daytime shifts if deemed appropriate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Responsible for accepting crisis calls from the CARES portal within ten minutes of the call and therein providing a crisis screening to client at location requested. As part of the assessment, the Crisis Worker must assess risk, presenting problem, social history, self care habits, and family system. Intake forms must also be completed
  • Responsible for providing Mobile Crisis Response, Crisis Intervention, Case Management, under Rule 132 and other Rule 140 services
  • Responsible for managing small case load that is identified as having minimal needs and is assigned by the Manager of SASS Crisis Services and Manager of 590 Crisis Services. This includes making follow-up calls to screen for additional needs and risk, ensuring that client and family have appropriate resources, communicating with supervisor if client is identified as having higher need and is out of scope of Crisis Worker’s practice, closing case if no further services are needed
  • Responsible for networking with collaterals on behalf of crisis/active clients, including: referral and linkage, facilitation of level of care determined, and the advocacy of a client’s rights within the education, legal, state and mental health systems when indicated. This includes responsibility for coordinating services with our own sub-contracted agencies.
SUPERVISION
  • Must attend a minimum of 8 monthly group supervisions for the year
  • Responsible for discussing cases with supervisor in clinical, individual, and/or group supervision as need arises
ADMINISTRATIVE:
  • Responsible for completion of and meeting deadlines for all clinical paperwork for active and crisis clients
  • Responsible for completion of and meeting deadlines for all agency administrative paperwork, including: billing slips, time sheets, expense sheets, and any other administrative or agency requested reports.
  • Responsible for sending in completed assessment within 24 hours
  • Responsible for billing assessments within 7 days, or before the pay period ends
  • Responsible for attending meetings as requested by supervisor
  • Responsible for serving on Agency and/or Program Committees when requested by supervisor
  • Responsible for holding a valid, unexpired Illinois driver's license.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION/PUBLIC RELATIONS:
  • Responsible for educating the community regarding the SASS program in the service area
  • Responsible for facilitating positive networking relationships with community service providers and/or networks as assigned by supervisor
OTHER DUTIES/SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS/PROJECTS
  • Fulfill agency requirement of training and documenting all training attended, and must attend all mandatory agency in-service trainings
  • Be available to help develop materials and participate in special community education projects/presentations as requested by administrative staff
  • Pursue and maintain licensure and/or certification that is available and appropriate to educational/professional background
  • Perform incidental business related travel as needed
  • Participate in agency Risk Management and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
  • Perform job responsibilities with a positive attitude
  • Responsible for promoting collegiality at the workplace by working collaboratively with others
  • Maintain FSA equipment
TRAINING
  • Responsible for completion of annual training requirements.
  • Maintaining IM-CAT and IM+CANS Certification
  • Maintaining additional HFS requited trainings
  • Responsible for ongoing training assigned by supervisor.
  • Training on private insurance and unfunded adults

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This role has no supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
The incumbent will be sitting in car for travel for several minutes every day. The incumbent is frequently expected to walk, sit, stand, bend and drive. The incumbent may also need to climb stairs on occasion. Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. on occasion.
The work environment is mostly field based and will have varying temperatures and noise level. The incumbent can expect to work in client’s homes, schools, public libraries, community agencies, and some in office time.
  • Workers may be required to stand for long periods of time such as if at a hospital and they do not have a space for you to sit while you work.
  • Other physical demands include sitting, walking and carrying your equipment.
  • Use of computers/surface pros 85% of the time.
  • Crisis worker is expected to work in office at least once a week (unless specified by supervisor)
  • During training or other job duties (such as billing, additional training, team meetings), can be complete at home with the permission of your supervisor.
    • If at the office, crisis workers share a common area. Cubicles are shared amongst other members of the team. Crisis workers do begin their day in the office for their scheduled day-time shifts.
    • If the shared area becomes too loud, workers are allowed to utilize therapy office space (if the space is available).

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position is part-time, up to 29 hours per week.
Hourly Pay Rates
  • In accordance with Illinois state law, we are committed to transparency in compensation. The hourly pay range for this position is Rate 1: $21.22 to $33.18 and Rate 3: $39.25 to $63.07 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

TRAVEL
This position requires extensive travel throughout the Kane and DeKalb County areas and occasionally to areas outside of that.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • The candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or another related field.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • This position requires day-time, weekend, and on-call availability.
