Job description

Job Title: Marketing Coordinator (Content Creation Focus)

Department: Marketing & Enrollment

Location: San Diego, CA (On-Campus)

Reports To: Director of Enrollment & Marketing

Employment Type: Part-Time (Up To 30 hours Per Week)

Role Overview

We are seeking a creative and organized Marketing Coordinator with a strong passion for visual storytelling. This role is unique in that it bridges the gap between traditional marketing coordination and hands-on content production.

You will be the "eyes" of the university, responsible for capturing high-quality photography and video that showcases our student work, campus culture, and community events. In addition to creating content, you will manage its distribution across our social media channels and website, while assisting the wider marketing team with events and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

1. Content Creation (Photography & Videography)

  • Capture Campus Life: Regularly shoot high-quality photos and videos of student projects, studio culture, critiques ("crits"), and campus events to build a rich library of visual assets.
  • Video Production: Film and edit short-form video content (Reels/TikToks) and long-form storytelling pieces (student testimonials, alumni spotlights, faculty interviews) for YouTube and the website.
  • Post-Production: Edit photos and videos using Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop) to ensure all visuals meet brand standards and aesthetic quality.
  • Event Coverage: Serve as the primary photographer/videographer for major university events, including graduation, guest lectures, and open houses.

2. Social Media & Digital Management

  • Community Management: Manage the day-to-day posting and engagement on NewSchool’s social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok).
  • Content Calendar: Collaborate with the Director of Enrollment & Marketing to plan a visual content calendar that aligns with enrollment cycles and academic milestones.
  • Website Updates: Update the university website (WordPress) with fresh imagery, student work galleries, and news stories to keep the digital presence current.

3. General Marketing Coordination

  • Marketing Collateral: Assist in the creation of flyers, brochures, and digital ads by providing visual assets and basic graphic design support.
  • Event Support: Assist with the logistical planning and execution of recruitment events, orientation, and industry partnerships.
  • Asset Management: Organize and maintain the department’s digital asset library, ensuring files are easily accessible for the internal team and external partners.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Associate’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Photography, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in marketing, social media management, or content creation.
  • Visual Skills:
    • Proficiency with DSLR/Mirrorless cameras and audio/lighting equipment.
    • Strong portfolio demonstrating photography and video editing skills (Reels/TikTok trends and polished professional cuts).
    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, and InDesign).
  • Marketing Skills: Familiarity with social media scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social) and basic CMS experience (WordPress is a plus).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent time management and ability to work independently in a fast-paced academic environment.
    • A "design eye" - ability to understand architectural aesthetics and present student work respectfully and beautifully.

Preferred (But Not Required)

  • Experience working in Higher Education or with Architecture/Design firms.
  • Drone photography/videography license (Part 107).
  • Basic motion graphics skills (After Effects).
