What is a part time coder?

A Part Time Coder is a programming or software development role with reduced working hours, typically less than full-time employment. Responsibilities can include writing, testing, and debugging code, contributing to projects, and collaborating with teams. These roles are suitable for students, freelancers, or individuals seeking flexible work arrangements. Part-time coders may work remotely or on-site, depending on company requirements. The job scope varies based on the employer, industry, and specific project needs.

What are the typical responsibilities of a part time coder, and how are assignments usually structured?

Part Time Coders are typically responsible for writing, testing, and maintaining code, addressing minor bug fixes, and collaborating with other developers or project managers as needed. Assignments are often broken into manageable tasks or modules, allowing you to work independently and deliver updates asynchronously. Many teams utilize project management tools such as Jira or Trello to organize your work and communicate deadlines. You may participate in code reviews, daily stand-up meetings, or periodic check-ins, depending on the company's workflow. This flexible arrangement enables you to contribute meaningfully to projects while maintaining a part-time schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time coder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Coder, you need proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java, along with a good understanding of software development principles. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic database management, and sometimes certifications such as a coding bootcamp or relevant degree are valuable assets. Effective time management, communication skills, and the ability to work independently or with remote teams set strong candidates apart. These skills are crucial for producing high-quality code efficiently while balancing part-time hours and meeting project goals.

What is the easiest part time coder job to get?

Entry-level part-time coding jobs such as data entry, basic web development, or simple scripting roles are generally the easiest to obtain, especially for those with foundational programming skills in languages like HTML, CSS, or Python. These positions often require minimal experience and may be available through freelance platforms or small companies seeking basic technical support.

Job description

Description:

At Sage Clinical RCM, you'll code high-acuity inpatient encounters across a national portfolio of health systems, from academic medical centers to community hospitals. No two client environments are identical, and that's the point. You'll sharpen your skills across specialties, payers, and documentation styles instead of coding the same census for years.

What You'll Do

  • Review inpatient encounters and assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and DRGs that hold up to audit.
  • Read documentation critically. When it doesn't support the coded services, flag it and escalate the gap.
  • Code in full compliance with CMS requirements, payer-specific rules, and official coding guidelines.
  • Move confidently between client workflows, systems, and audit expectations.
  • Hold the line on quality (95% accuracy or better) while meeting realistic productivity standards.
Requirements:

What You Bring

  • Active RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS credential.
  • 3+ years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting, medium or large facility preferred. Select client engagements require 5+ years.
  • Fluency with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner), encoders, and CAC platforms (Solventum, Optum).
  • The judgment to work independently and the instinct to ask when something looks off.

How We Work

  • 100% remote, production-driven, with real collaboration across coding, audit, and client teams.
  • Full-time roles aligned to client and project needs.
  • Part-time, PRN, and project-based options for backlog support, specialty coverage, or targeted initiatives.

Some positions may require evening or weekend coverage depending on client needs or project scope.

Why Sage Clinical RCM

  • National exposure to diverse, high-acuity health systems and specialties.
  • A quality-first culture. We staff to realistic expectations, not volume at any cost.
  • Flexibility that fits your life: full-time, part-time, or PRN.
  • A real growth path into audit, education, and advisory work as your career expands.
