Job Description:

Maintains oncology data in compliance with state and national standards. Collects, analyzes, and interprets health information to support care sites and accreditation initiatives.

Colorado for remote caregivers' whose assigned Intermountain facility or service area is not based in Colorado.

Job Essentials

  • Identifies eligible oncology cases. Abstracts and reports according to the coding, regulatory and accreditation guidelines at the facility, local, state, and national levels. Applies case identification and coding rules as is mandated.
  • Monitors, maintains and ensures quality of abstracts and cancer registry data to comply with all regulatory and applicable coding manuals, SCL Health and the State Central Cancer Registries rules. Updates all data sources with additional treatment information utilizing the EMR, Central Cancer Registries, physician offices, and any other resources to ensure that all treatment available is collected, as applicable.
  • Completes follow up that provides accurate recurrence information and any other changes to the cases as identified, per coding and reporting requirements.
  • Supports Care Sites accreditation programs through accurate research and abstraction of diagnostic, treatment and disease status.
  • Performs real-time and retrospective data review. Fulfills data requests and generates reports utilizing the cancer registry database and any other data sources as necessary. Prepares tables, graphs, and reports, utilizing appropriate benchmarks. Disseminates information in accordance with professional ethics, and ensures confidential information is appropriately protected.
  • Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives. Identifies potential areas for improvement including processes that could be streamlined or revised to improve results. Identifies potential safety hazards that may create problems for patients and/or staff, and takes appropriate actions.
  • Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree
  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) is required
  • Two (2) years of experience in cancer registry, or health information management, or a health related field


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelors Degree in Health Information Technology or health related field
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Certified Tumor Registrar Previous experience in quality and statistics

  • See and read computer monitors and documents.
  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
  • May require lifting and transporting objects and office supplies, bending, kneeling and reaching.
