Bachelorโs or Masterโs degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Discover a meaningful opportunity supporting students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in the Baltimore area. This contract role offers a rewarding blend of school-based, hands-on instruction and flexibility to attend IEP meetings virtually from within the district, minimizing time spent away from direct student support. The assignment will begin August 31, 2026, and run through June 17, 2027, with interviews currently underway for the June 11, 2026 position.
Responsibilities include:
- Deliver specialized vision services as outlined in student IEPs, traveling among a manageable cluster of schools in close proximity.
- Integrate seamlessly with an established team of current Teachers for the Visually Impaired and Orientation/Mobility specialists.
- Attend IEP meetings virtually onsite, ensuring comprehensive support for students and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Adapt service delivery based on unique skillsets, including assignment to regional vision programs if you are skilled in Braille instruction.
- Maintain thorough and timely documentation of student progress and ensure compliance with all educational requirements.
Qualifications and desired experience:
- Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) teaching certificate with Vision endorsement.
- Experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments in a school setting.
- Strong organizational skills for managing itinerant assignments.
- Proficiency in Braille is highly desirable and will influence school assignments.
- Willingness to complete House Bill 486 credentialing, including a background check, fingerprinting, and employment history review.
- Must present images of required licenses upon request.
