Job description

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized assistant to support our bookkeeper and help manage our retail & wholesale business office & showroom. This role involves managing financial records, entering data and reconciling accounts, assisting our sales department with various tasks, answering phone calls and dealing with customers.

The ideal candidate will have bookkeeping experience, experience with accounting software and an understanding of financial concepts. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills within a professional environment.

As a plus, someone with experience in sales and/or interior design would be a valuable asset to our core business of retail/wholesale of fine rugs and carpets. This provides an additional opportunity to assist with sales.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update financial records using accounting software such as QuickBooks and other computer software such as Excel, Word, etc.
  • Assist bookkeeper with general ledger accounting and account reconciliation, including bank reconciliation and balance sheet reconciliation
  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory processes
  • Account analysis, ensuring accuracy of debits & credits in the system
  • Sales Tax review and report preparation
  • Contribute to general bookkeeping, inventory record keeping, invoicing and office management activities.
  • Answering calls and communicating with customers
  • Routine filing of office documents, bookkeeping records and correspondence.

Skills

  • Proficiency in working on computer. Specifically: 1) QuickBooks and Excel experience and 2) Willingness to learn other computer programs
  • Understanding of accounting principles, debits & credits, and journal entries
  • Experience with bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in general office and bookkeeping tasks
  • Strong typing skills (10 key) for efficient data entry
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with fellow workers
  • Plus, but not required, interior design knowledge and sales experience will help to understand our core business and possibly participate in sales
