Job description

Texas Attorney - Asbestos Litigation and Local Counsel
Our mid-size, Chicago-based insurance defense firm has an immediate opening for a Texas-based Attorney to handle asbestos litigation and serve as local counsel for key client matters. Admission to practice in Texas is required, with preference given to candidates also admitted to the Illinois or Missouri bar. This is a remote role focused on asbestos cases and serving as boots on the ground for Arch cases. Our firm's expertise spans toxic tort, complex product liability, general liability, and professional liability. We pride ourselves on a team-based approach to litigation, offering a level of customer service, flexibility, and responsiveness not often found in larger firms.
We are extremely flexible in terms of qualifications and background for this role, considering candidates who are of counsel with an existing book of business, part-time attorneys, or other experienced practitioners. The ideal candidate will have Texas asbestos litigation experience or, at a minimum, the ability to quickly learn and manage asbestos cases. Additional responsibilities include handling depositions and potentially more, depending on the candidate's experience and interest. This role is fully remote.
Position Overview: This is a hands-on role requiring strong case management skills, precision in legal writing, and professionalism in depositions and court hearings across multiple jurisdictions. Candidates must be hard-working, motivated, and capable of independent work. Ideal candidates will possess excellent analytical and critical reasoning skills, the ability to think strategically under pressure, and a client-focused mentality.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Take the lead in asbestos and complex litigation cases, handling all aspects of discovery, trial preparation, and strategy.
• Manage a high-profile caseload with autonomy and strategic oversight.
• Conduct depositions of plaintiffs, fact witnesses, and experts.
• Draft and argue motions, including dispositive and pretrial motions.
• Develop and execute trial strategy, working closely with our client and internal teams.
• Serve as local counsel, providing in-person support for key litigation matters.
• Train and mentor junior attorneys in litigation and trial tactics.
Candidate Requirements:
• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• 4 - 8 years of litigation experience.
• Admitted to practice in Texas (secondary admission to Illinois or Missouri bar preferred).
• Experience with motion practice and depositions.
• Lead experience in plaintiff and expert depositions preferred.
• Capable of independent work.
• Highly organized and efficient.
• Superior research and writing skills.
• Ability to multi-task effectively.
• Strong analytical skills.
Compensation and Benefits Overview: $105,000-135,000 (DOE)
The pay offered for this role may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Eligible employees may also receive bonus opportunities and other forms of compensation, contributing to a comprehensive total rewards package. Benefits offerings may differ based on location.
In addition to monetary compensation, employees are provided with a robust selection of benefits, including:
• Comprehensive medical insurance plans (PPO and PPO HSA (with an HSA contribution up to $2000) provided by BCBSIL)
• Dental insurance plan (PPO provided by Guardian)

• Access to a retirement savings plan (We match 100% of the first 3% of salary deferral plus 50% of the next 2% of salary deferral)
• Paid time off (PTO)

• Commuter benefits
• Short-term and long-term disability coverage
• Accidental death coverage
• Other leave programs
