Job description


The purpose of this classification is to assist in providing recreational activities and events for the leisure and enjoyment of the public. Duties vary depending on assignment.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Recreation Centers
Assists in conducting recreation programs and activities.
Assists recreation staff in conducting sports, games and events.
Organizes arts and crafts at a recreation facility.
Conducts and organizes story-telling sessions for children.
Organizes social gatherings and community programs.
Sets up for program activities and serving as an on-site assistant.
Maintains facilities and equipment.
Assists staff by making needed equipment available and monitoring use.
Observes and/or participates in activities.
Assists in maintaining order in compliance with established rules.
Provides routine information on facility rules and division activities to participants and the public.
Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center
Schedules and coordinates private rentals of center, administers rental contracts and collects fees and payments.
Provides administrative duties and support, answering phones, greets and directs visitors, schedules appointments, responds to inquiries, and orders supplies.
Maintains equipment, troubleshoots problems, and schedules outside maintenance for equipment malfunctions.
Horse Farm
Recruits program participants and volunteers; institutes functional Booster Club to help support all programs at center; and hosts annual special events to attract members of community to become part of growth of facility.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required; previous equivalent experience preferred, e.g., working with children or parks and recreation experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
