Job description

About the Position:

The part-time Kitchen and Meal Service Coordinator position provides oversight to all kitchen operations, handles meal preparation and serving, and supervision of meal volunteers for Agape’s After-School Program and Summer Camp, and participants in the RAGTime senior citizen program. The Manager is required to operate consistently within the program standards, mission, and guidelines as outlined by the Agape Youth and Family Center's Policy Manual.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Provide well-balanced, nutritional meals 

  • Plan, create and prepare healthy meals for Agape students in the After School Program, Summer Camps, and for the RAGTime seniors.  
  • Have a good understanding of nutrition and referencing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Pyramid for meal planning. 
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and a positive, respectful demeanor when serving students, seniors, guests, and volunteers.  

Kitchen Maintenance 

  • Develop and implement acceptable clean kitchen and equipment program. 
  • Inform supervisor immediately when supplies are low, or equipment is not functioning properly.  
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen environment?at all times, adhering to health and safety regulations. 
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen to include: countertops, floor, garbage areas, clearing and washing trays, plates, pots, pans, addressing spills, and wiping down tables and chairs as needed. 
  • Adhere to food safety standards at all times, making sure all food is stored, labeled, handled, and prepared properly, and free of contaminants. 
  • Comply with all U.S. Health Department rules and regulations. 
  • Provide information and recommendations to the Director of Programs & Partnerships regarding program evaluation and modifications to better meet needs of the kitchen, meal program, and inventory control. 
  • Ensure proper maintenance of kitchen, dining rooms, kitchen equipment, and storage pantries. 
  • Receive, label, and store food supplies, equipment, and utensils in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas as needed. 
  • Maintain data quality control and reporting measures of food service program. 
  • Complete monthly meal report and calendar. 
  • Control food inventory and program supplies. 
  • Spearhead stocking and organizing the food pantry. 
  • Monitor and maintain the inventory, supplies, and condition of the kitchen. Ensure dining room and kitchen is stocked with necessary meal service supplies (plates, bowls, silverware, cups, etc). 
  • Develop and implement general kitchen, meal preparation, and serving and cleaning procedures. 
  • Receive and handle food donations to ensure food is stored safely. 
  • Purge kitchen refrigerators and food pantry twice a week, purge freezers once a week and additional food storage spaces 1-2 times a quarter.   
  • Ensure all expired and spoiled food is disposed of properly and in a timely manner. 
  • Attend outside meetings and trainings pertaining to the safety and well-being of the meal service program. 
  • Act as a member of a cohesive team, maintain professional image and standards of professional conduct at all times.  

Working with Volunteers 

  • Develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relations with dinner volunteers. 
  • Be on-site and accessible to assist and direct food volunteers during meal preparation and meal service. 
  • Ensure meal volunteers are utilizing proper food handling practices, following the hairnets, handwashing, and gloves while serving  
  • Provide meal volunteers with clear guidance on how to properly serve meals, emphasizing food safety, portions, and procedures in the kitchen  
  • Oversee meal volunteers during meal service, offering assistance in the kitchen as needed, guiding volunteers through food preparation, serving, and proper cleanup  
  • Maintain a positive and encouraging attitude when interacting with meal volunteers
